Port Window Weatherstrip Bulging

Port Light Weatherstrip Bulging

I was at my boat (2005 370 SS) this weekend and noticed this on one of the side port windows. I plan to get a better look at it over the winter but was curious if anyone else has had this happen and/or is cause for concern?

From the outside it just looks badly fitted. Maybe time to re seat or replace the gasket. Doesn't look split or cracked.

I bought the boat in August and just noticed it. I can't say 100% for sure but I'm fairly certain it wasn't like that when I bought it. Didn't come up in the survey either. I hit some pretty rough water while out a month or so ago and it could have happen then. Boat is stored indoors and no water has leaked inside that I can tell. I'm hoping I can just re-seat the gasket. I'll keep everyone updated.

I took a quick look at this while at the marina over the weekend and I believe I can just re-seat the gasket like Belleair suggested. Does anyone know how the outside trim ring is removed? The screws on the interior of the port-light hold the inside trim ring in place. I seems the outside trim ring might just be siliconed on but I didn't want to pull too hard.

I would check with Formula TAG to find out how the gasket fits around the window to complete the seal.

You may be able to use the handle butt end of a plastic putty knife to carefully reset the gasket.

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan to get in touch with TAG for their recommendations as well. I'll be sure to pass on any information or updates.

So finally circled back to this problem. Turns out four out the six clips that secure the outside trim ring were broken, two were still attached. Looks like they were soldered or spot welded on, anyone had any luck repair this? It's a Bomar port light and plan to call tomorrow but figured I'd check here first.

Looks like the spot welds broke. I hope Bomar stands up and offers a free replacement as this would definitely be material and workmanship issues. Good luck.

Update- called Bomar, no luck on a free replacement but I can get just the outer ring without getting the whole port light. About $80 including shipping and an 8 week lead time. I'm glad I called now.

One question, you can't really see it from in the pics but there is a gasket that seals the outer ring to the hull and Bomar says this would have come from the boat manufacturer. Before bugging TAG, anyone know a source for this? Looks like about a 1/2 round foam gasket, I suspect Home Depot or Lowes might have something like this.

Home Depot Carries 1/4" and 3/8" round "foam rod". I used some on a project recently to fill some gaps while resealing and weatherprooofing some external doorways at the house. They may have 1/2" as well. Do a quick search.

I received and installed the new Bomar trim ring a couple months back. Does anyone have a use for the old one? I can't see a need to keep it but hate to throw it away. Just pay to ship and it's yours.
