Fishing network cable from cockpit to salon

I installed an Arlo wireless home camera system on the boat. One of the cams I installed on the dock using gopro type bicycle handlebar mounting system so it is easy to move from the dock to the boat. At the dock, it allows me to check on the situation at the dock during heavy weather. When...

    intermittent horn problem

That's good news Wizzy. Sounds like lots of fun blowing the horn underneath the shed! For the record - I had similar issue that turned out to be the horns themselves (compressor was fine). After extensive searching, I (eventually) located my compressor adjacent to the drive motor for the...

    45 Hard top Access

I haven't been up on top, but I replaced the radar myself using a folding ladder (see pic) set up in the cockpit, and went up through the sunroof. I'm pretty sure I could have made it up on top via that route.

    Bonding metal to fiberglass

Just thought this might be useful for others: The stbd strut on the garage hatch became detached from the hatch. Inspection determined that it is just screwed into the fiberglass, and the screws had stripped out of the fiberglass. Also determined that a previous repair had failed. Over a...

    Steering on One Engine?

Does anyone have experience operating a 45 Yacht on one engine? I'm faced with the need to move the boat some distance to a Volvo mechanic for work on starboard engine (or pay for him to travel to where the boat is). Just curious if anyone has experience with steering or other aspects of...

How to display wireless action camera on chartplotters

Just thought this might be of interest. I've been looking for a low-cost solution to view live video on my chartplotters. This initially started with the desire to see rode when weighing anchor. There are two parts to the solution. First - I acquired a low-cost wireless action cam that is...

Fishing network cable from cockpit to salon

I'm planning to fish a Cat5e Ethernet cable from the cockpit into the salon. Does anyone know whether the pictured a/c grille panel can be removed, and how? It's the aft panel in the starboard cabinetry in the salon. Thanks, Steve

How to remove calcium build-up in freshwater system

Water flow in the galley sink faucet began to slow noticeably last season. So, I finally got around to diagnosing the problem -- calcium buildup in various places in the water system. Two obvious places to start with were the faucet aerator and restrictor. Cleaning these by scraping was...

What bottom paint for pods and swim platform arms?

Propspeed, absolutely, for the pods. They are a unique aluminum alloy that doesn't accept other treatments well. I had an expensive job done a couple of years ago, etching and all that. I know the vendor well: they are a quality outfit and had done their preferred treatment on numerous large...

    Waste Holding Tank Location

I did not know there was a filter on the holding tank vent until my daughter told me about it. She had to show me, since I'd never heard of or seen one (how embarrassing!). On '08 45 Yacht it is above the holding tank, mounted on the bulkhead behind the Halon tank. Easy access. 5/8" threads...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Yeehaw!!! Success. Only took 3 months. I discovered a special plug attached to the 15-pin plug on the back of the Control Panel. That plug has a jumper in it and is intended to allow disconnecting the Remote Panel. Plugged it in, the engine starts up and runs just fine. Closer inspection...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Hi Bob, Thanks for taking the time. I know what you mean that it's scary to think we might be starting to understand this. You realize that we're alone in the universe, right? The teeth-gritting, grrrrr part is that I have already changed out all 3 of the principal safety switches (Coolant...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Replaced the GEN relay. No joy. Tested the OEM and it is good, so will keep it as a spare. Trying to make sense now of the wiring in the control panel. I still believe the problem concerns the remote panel, but that is a Formula issue, not a Westerbeke issue. Or rather, it's the interface...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Discovered a relay labeled GEN in the panel behind the Start/Stop switch. Research determines it is a Bosch type automotive relay with two 87 terminals. 87a is NC. 87 is NO. When activated, the relay will break the circuit connected to 87a. Diagram in the 45 Yacht Wiring, Plumbing and Fuel...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

I am determined not to replace the starter unless TINA (there is no alternative). Reviewing the schematic yet again, it would appear that if the Stop switch on the remote panel is defective, that might account for the behavior. That remote Stop switch is in parallel with the Pre-heat switch on...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Now that you mention it, in this image you can trace the violet wire from where it connects to a device below the K1-Start Relay to terminal TB2-6. From the Parts List, it should have the same p/n as the K1-Start Relay. BTW - Westerbeke responded and pointed me to the ambiguous drawing that...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

You're right. I misread the drawing. Good catch. That Yel/Red wire connects the Start Solenoid to the K1-Start Relay. So that suggests the relay in the upper far left corner of the Control Box is the Start relay, not the K2-Run Relay. Hmm. The colors of the connections to the device in...

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

Good call. In the schematic there are two Yellow wires with Red stripe connected to the Starter Solenoid. One Yel/Red wire in the schematic is not used in a genset with electronic governor (as this one has). The other connects to the K2-Run Relay.

Westerbeke 12.6BTD genset - starting issues

I'm working down another path at the moment. I believe now that the "K2 Run Relay" is located inside the Control panel box. Picture and drawing from manual below. The relay in question is in the back upper left corner of the box; part No 29 in the dwg. Does that seem plausible? I suspect...
