280 SS Batteries

It looks like my batteries are toast. What size do I need to get? Any thoughts on the band?

I use the Optima series by Interstate batteries. They are a gel cell so no acid can damage my holders or wiring.

If you camp out on the water I would get the most power capacity available for at least one side in a marine deep cycle. Optima blue or yellow top.

There was someone selling some batteries that had almost twice the power of an Optima on the Offshoreonly web site. The case was larger. I don't know if it would fit in a standard production holder. I have Gil holders in my SS and I haven't measured them yet to see if those larger capacity batteries would fit.

Good luck choosing.

I AGREE THAT OPTIMA BLUE TOPS ARE THE BEST. I DISAGREE THAT THEY ARE A GELL CELL. THEY ARE AGM. ADVANCED GLASS MAT. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM A GELL CELL. IF YOU DECIDE ON GELL CELL, YOU MUST CHANGE THE SWITCHES ON YOUR CHARGER TO ACCOMODATE A GELL BATTERY. AGM SHOULD STILL USE THE LEAD ACID SETTING. GOOD LUCK.

I understand the Optima has a spun fiber material and it will not leak when mounted in any position including upside down. The solution used in the Optima is a very thick solution and why I have refered to it only in general as a gel cel. Spun fiber technology in batteries is not at all like the first effort of Gels. They are not comparable in any way and I hope I didn't confuse or mislead someone by not being more specific. ;)

Do I need a series 27 or a different size?

If you go get one the selling dealer can size reference it for you. I'm not completely sure but I think the "series" clasification only applies to lead acid configurations. The Optima series I have seen come in different power outputs but the case was the same size with universal top and side posts.
