Formula does it again! Such a nice job of keeping us informed of what is available for us to move into ;D Great photos, summaries of what happens at the factory, a list of standard features as long as your arm. You would almost think with the expense of these booklets and the mailing they would have the dealer network follow up with calls to check the level of interest....at least to go for a test ride! I'd even bring the small cooler along 8)

I went through the 45 at the STL boat show again this weekend after going through it first at the Chicago boat show! I think formula is really missin something with this boat! Just seems really confined for a 45. The 44 Regal and 458 Four Winns seemed much more open down below. Fourwinns new boat takes the Cockpit and Swimplatform layout over any other boat in the size but the Regal just seemed to have a better fit and finish! the 48 Sea Ray seemed way over priced and just poorly layed out.

RIVERBOATER,
I AGREE WITH YOU AS FAR AS THE BEAM OF THE 45. HOPE SOMEDAY FORMULA WILL WIDEN THE BEAM. DID NOT LIKE THE REGAL AT ALL. THOUGHT FIT AND FINISH WAS HORRIBLE. HARDTOP IS NOT REMOVABLE AT ALL ON THE REGAL. FOURWINNS CANNOT EVEN COMPARE TO THE FORMULA IN QUALITY.

I agree totally as to how the Four Winns Compares. However I do disagree on the Regal! My brother in law owns a custom cabinet company and went through the boat pretty much in depth.. all off the cabinets are finished inside and otu w/ matching grains and a nice finish! I'm going to be in florida for work next week and hope to make it to the miami show. I'd like to see regals new 52. . . . . . . . and performance numbers rival that of all formulas PC's

MAKE SURE YOU COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES. REGAL USES IPS 500'S AND OPTIONAL 600'S. 600'S STANDARD ON FORMULA. CHECK OUT THEIR SOLID SURFACE ON REGAL. LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE QUALITY ON A FORMULA. DASH ON THE REGAL LAID OUT POORLY IN MY OPINION.

You went to the boat show and didn't even stop to say hi? Then you come back and bash the boat too. I had nothing but compliments at the show, only negative was didn't make it in a 55 footer. Actially was told a dozen times or more that it was by far the best looking boat in the building. Did I miss something or what?

I did look for you troy and even asked mark i believe it is! You were in the office with a customer I assume doing a deal. So Congrads!!!! I'm not trying to bash the boat but for a cruiser it just doesnt meet my needs... There are alot of engineering things I love about the boat and formulas in general but the beam is to small! the boat looks to tall for its profile and i felt the cabin was small for a 45 ft boat. However the new 35SS was a awesome boat and If I go back to an SS you will be my stop for a new 35.... as to the 45 it just doesnt do anything for me and the way I boat!

I have ridden in both the 45 Yacht and the Regal 4460. (My father-in-law owns the latter).
We sea trialed the 45 in St. Pete last year and my father-in-law put a deposit on it and the dealer mucked-up the deal; so, he bought the Regal instead.
My observations, (and my wife agrees), the Formula is better on fit & finish hands down. The Regal, ( we spent 4 days on over Labor Day), was a difficult cockpit to manuever about with only four on board! Too many levels to negotiate after a day in the sun and 2 or 6 adult libations :p The hardtop supports seem to get in the way everywhere you look. Cockpit layout/design definitely goes to Formula.
As far as cabin...I'll have to say, when I was deciding on what to buy, there seemed to be a simplistic approach to Formula's cabin layout. But, after owning my '07 31PC for a while and then being aboard other boats, several of which have been Regals and BayRays, I mean SeaLiners, I mean Sea Rays...I now know what I like so much about the Formula design! It is the simplistic, clean and efficient design that makes me "feel" as though I have more room than others in my class.
I think, at least for me, the Formula approach to their cabins is like a fine scotch. It's an aquired taste...some just never get it. ;)

I went for test ride on 45 yacht fri at the Miami show. Performance was unbelievable had IPS. Everything you read about IPS is true. after riding and docking this boat i am convinced that IPS is the way to go.Regal and Four winns may be roomier inside but they will not perform like the Formula

I don't have any exact numbers. the boat went on plane quick and effortlessly. Cruised at 34 mph very nicely. burning about 1 gallon to the mile. I own a 40 PC could not believe how much better 45 handled.

Not bad numbers!

I have a good friend who was at the Miami Show! Haven't had a chance to talk to him since he got down there so im interested to hear what he got to see and the pictures.... They own an upholstry shop here in town and did the interior on the MTI/SuperCat Ferrari boat as well as the Budlight/TanCompay boat that was down there!

If I get pictures of anything from down there I'll be sure to pass them on!

I will post some performance figures once we have taken delivery of our 45 in about 3 weeks, can't wait.

cruise and fuel burn seem great but WOT doesn't seem to spectacular with IPS 600's being standard compared to some of the other reading I have done!

I haven't been on a 45 in the water yet nor any other boat but just seems about average.....

Troy maybe you can help me with this or someone else but did Formula completely re-do the hull to optimize the IPS or did they just plug the tunnels and put holes in the bottom! I do know from talking to some other dealers at the boat show FourWinns just plugged the tunnels. Regal says they modified but not completly redesigned the hull of their 4460 but the 5260 was designed specifically for and only for IPS.... Just curious from the boat tests and the talk of Silverton's new 53 and Lazarra's 75 with 3 and 4 IPS pods that the hull really needs to be tooled for the units for them to be most efficient!

any input

FROM WHAT I KNOW OF FORMULA, THEY TOOK NO SHORTCUTS, AND PROBABLY LET VOLVO HELP WITH HULL DESIGN. I COULD BE WRONG, BUT I BELIEVE THEY HAD TWO MOLDS, ONE FOR IPS, AND ONE FOR INBOARDS. SINCE INBOARDS WERE NOT WANTED ANYMORE, I GUESS THE OLD MOLD IS OUT IN THE WEEDS.

They do have two molds. Only built one inboard, all others were IPS. I have seen 40 MPH on GPS out of our 45 yacht IPS. I know every boat is a bit differant I was seeing 37 MPH on gps with a very dirty bottom.

Actually, Four Winns is one of the first manufacturers to work in conjunction with Volvo to proplerly implant the IPS system into the V378 over two years ago. I took a sea trial on ine at the Miami Boat Show with a Volvo rep and it handled fantastic. Dry ride, not too much bow rise as sometimes tends to happen with IPS and cornering and speed was a marvel. Hit 42 mph on GPS. When I asked the rep what he thinks of the Four Winns in comparison to other boats, he said it would be one of his top choices because they have installed over 200 boats with IPS while companies like Larsen 6 or so!!!I was also looking at the Larson 37 footer.
