Almost Finished 93' 34PC 6 Year Update

Thought I would share our long term project closer to completion.

Bought "Treads-N-Water" in Sept 08'. She was all stock, 454-330's, B II's, Palm Beach, all original stem to stern. We replaced quite a few things the first 2 years. All new were 16kBtu AC/HT, full canvas set, genset bulkhead and shelf, in the cabin, the Queen made all new drapes/curtains, recovered all valance boards. Even for sitting out uncovered for almost 4 years, it was surprising that all systems equipment other than A/C unit, and genset shelf being soft when we took Ownership.

We had 2 really good seasons with her, and then I decided to do a repower. The details of that thread are at the link below, from another Forum I was on at the time.

http://www.speedwake.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58821&highlight=34pc+repower

Rather than type a lot, I'm going to try and do most of this with the pictures from the last 6 years of the before and after of the major things aside from the repower in the link above.

Here is the cockpit the day we went and look at her for sale.

Here are a few shots the day we first went to see her for sale.

Here are a few of the repower. This is the bilge when we looked at her, and when finished, and a few during, just to give you a sense of dramatic change.

The repower started with 454-420's, and after some reworking, finished with 500 HP each, and 400 lbs of torque. They ran great for 3 seasons. Last season (yr 3), the port drive (BII) blew a lower while cruising back from Kent Narrows, limped home on one, 3-1/2 hours at 6-7 mph. This is what I found when I got on the lift.

I was running at 3400, gorgeous ride, bay nice and flat, and boom, didn't feel anything, like I hit something, not at all, port motor revved a bit before I could pull the sticks back. Started back up fine, just no gear. So I replaced both lowers with these BIII units.

Friend had a set of 28's for the BIII, so I used them free. He pulled them off his 370SS, stepped hull. Between going from the BII's to BIII's, and then spinning that 28 wheel, put a load on the motors, slow to plane, but man what a gain in cruise, almost 8 mph. Didn't really push them much, but knew I needed to get down to a 26 wheel, and was planning on it over the winter. Well, come the end of August, after only clocking about 30 hours for whole season, my luck ran out. On the way back from Annapolis one sunday, the port motor, the one that revved when the drive blew, cracked a valve and bounced around from #1 cylinder to #5, blew a hole in the head and that was it. I knew I couldn't trust the other motor so out they both came.

So we begin another long effort to build 2 new motors. Got in line late so I was faced with waiting my turn with the new motors.

With that, I figured I would get some other items addressed.

Cockpit upholstery and carpet
New speakers, sub, amps (head unit done few years back)
New cockpit LED lights
New swim platform extension
Wet sand entire boat, cabin top to water line

Here are the visuals to keep it interesting and to prevent anyone from saying "this threads worthless without pics"... :)

Upholstery, before and after.

i wasn't aware you could put a #3 lower onto a #2, how do the ratios work out or did you have to change it? so you are now waiting on 2 more engines? very cool thread i hope you keep it all coming. mind if i pm you for more info on specifics, this looks pretty much identical to my layout other than the outdrives.

FT, swapping the BII lowers with the BIII's was simple, they are interchangeable relative to the Upper cases, and the ratios were the same, 2.0's.

The second set of motors were dropped in Friday of Labor Day weekend. Splashed her the following Thursday. And with the 26's swapped for the 28's, she was a completely different boat. Comes right up out of the hole with ease, and cruises great. Here are the numbers:

Cruise at 3100 RPM (so secondaries aren't open yet) solid 25 knots, burning 20 gallons an hour.
WOT at 5100 RPM, 40 knots.

Pretty good numbers considering these weigh in at 15k lbs with fuel, water, gear. We put almost 27 hours on the meters between Sept 5th and Oct 12th.

Yes, PM me anytime or post here, whichever you prefer. Our boats are identical other than your V-drives.

One of the sweetest things we did this year to her was install an extended swim platform. This completely changed the entire use of the stern of the boat. This was very good $$ spent. Install was pretty easy too, it must be done with the motors out so you can reach back into the pocket that is created with the hull and deck from inside the bilge.

There was only minimal trimming needed where the extension meets the hull/deck joint. the 3 support rods are included and even with the tie-bar, the center rod clears with about 1/8" when the drives are in trailer position.

where'd ya get that platform, i'm lovin' that extra room! no need for me to pull motors either, just jump down in front of the motors and go ta work. whats the extension on it, 2 feet or so?

Tenn,

Swimplatforms.com is the place I found it. They make their own molds for specific makes, models and years. Very good quality, was shipped to my shop in less than 2 weeks (in May no less) and took only 4 hours to install from unwrapping it to bolted on and ready for caulk. This gives you 47+ inches of flat area, or an additional 24" beyond the factory platform. The underside is gelcoated as well, comes with all required hardware, SSTL flat head socket bolts with washers and elastice stop nuts. The fold out ladder is the best, double step for stability, and a total of 4 steps which makes it very easy to board from the water.

Like I said, it completely changes the way you use the stern. Only added about 125lbs to the weight overall.

Would highly recommend this upgrade.

Treads,

I know this is an old thread... But, we've been wondering approx. what the cost is to redo all the cockpit upholstery. Do you remember about what the cost was to get yours completed?

Thanks

Do you have a link to your swim plate form? Looks like this old link isn’t working. Or if you have newer pictures. how is the platform holding after close to 6 years? Thanks.
