I had a metal pipe sort of like a muffler in the bypass hose. It does restrict the air and water flow. I went to change the deteriorating hoses I realized that they were there. They were extremely plugged up but easy enough to clean up. I don’t know if your setup is the same.
I have them in mine too and they seem extremely blocked up. the exhaust weezes out of them for about 30 seconds after engines are shut down. I shoved a small stick in the outlet and it seems like there maybe a internal flapper valve there. This is also the outlet for the water coming out of the transmission heat exchanger. This just started when I did my spring startup this year. I am hauling the boat next week I so may be able to see what is there by looking in the outlet. If not I will take them apart and see if I can clean them.
