By-Pass Filter

Regarding the By-Pass filter on the Volvo 480's - I figure it kicks in when main filter clogs, would that be Correct??? Also if main filter clogs or fails for any reason and the By Pass filter takes over does the oil pressure drop??

My Yanmars have a bypass filter. It is constantly flowing but at a lower volume.

I did some research and realized my first thoughts were incorrect.

Bypass filters don't send oil to the motor, they just filter the oil to a higher degree (smaller particles filtered out)
