diesel exhaust modification

Update- I installed horizontal plates above the exhaust ports on my 1998 41Pc in an effort to reduce or eliminate the collection of soot which occurs on the sides of the hull. Th plates are approximately 30" long and 8" wide. At the lead end they begin even with the flare of the hull (just under the chine) forward of the ports and run aft.

The plates are secured through the underside of the chine with 4" reveal outboard the chine. The result was a reduction of, but not the complete elimination of, the soot. The 4" is adequate to direct the exhaust away from the hull and dissipate it, but, when going through rougher water the rise and fall of the boat stll allows exhaust to travel forward of the plates thereby allowing some exhaust to rise up along the hull and collect.

No downside , and have reduced the collection by maybe 50%, but I am still investigating other alternatives to eliminate it completely.

Diesel Exhaust Modification update 2 6 2016

Power Play, Finding the same thing on my 1999 41pc Cummins. Any pictures or further improvements? Did you find anything that gets it off besides the detail guy?

LL, I did install an additional modification which has completely eliminated to exhast soot. I purchased (2) 45 degree PVC "Street" elbows from my local commercial plumbing supply. The fit perfectly into the exhaust ports. I did use a dremel to grind the inside corner just a bit so it would actually lay against the hull and they lay completely protected beneath the aluminum plates by about 1/2". I then boatlifed them into position. They have been in place for two seasons and I have not had to clean my hull sides a single time. At rest, they direct the exhaust straight back under the chine and when underway, the exhaust is intrained in the water passing the hull and the exhaust gasses simply disappeared. No kidding they work perfectly. Painted black they blend into the bottom and are unnoticeable.

I do have pictures but am not clear on how I would post them.
