Drive Oil - West Marine vs Walmart

I purchased my drive oil last year from West Marine and had a couple bottles left over. I was at Walmart last week and noticed they had the Quicksilver High Performance drive oil for a pretty good price ($10/quart) so I picked up some. When I got home I noticed the bottles look a little different, everything is the same except for the yellow around the lettering. I was at a West Marine over the weekend and their bottles still don't have the yellow. Should I not worry about it or am I missing something.

Same stuff, just different label. I bought my local walmart out of the stuff a few years ago, had it for 7.99 and got 4 cases. The 4 cases wasn't much for a big store. I now buy it in 5 gal container online, even cheaper.

Also Merc now has a full synthetic lube which is amber color cable Racing. Stuff is 17.99 a quart, and think found a place to get 5 gallons for 262.12 which comes out to 13.45

I think one is just older packaging and therefore may have been sitting on the shelf for a bit longer. I think that the yellow one is newer.

A mechanic friend of mine uses Bel ray synthetic gear lube, stopped using the quicksilver stuff. Was told by Mesco rep that the merc stuff is made by bel ray. If that is true or not I don't know. 2 years now he's had no issues or call backs. I use the quicksilver stuff because I purchased 5 gallons of it two years ago. Just about to buy more, and I think I may go with the bel ray if its significantly cheaper.

Think for the most part a good quality high zinc lube will work. When your into heavy loads IMO we need more. The OSO folks go for Amsoil Extreme Duty and I would to, but that is stupid money expensive
