Ethanol E10

I hear that the Mid West area had Ethanol fuel last year. This is our first winter with E10 on the East Coast. Was wondering what you did when you put the boat up for the winter? My Boat US magazine says either empty the tank (not possible to get all the fuel out) or fill it to 95% full. that will leave a little room for expansion.

I think I am gong with the fill the tank concept.

Any Mid West guys with some tips? ;D

I TOO AM WONDERING. I USE FUEL STABELIZER, AND FILL THE TANKS FULL. HAVE HEARD HORROR STORIES ABOUT PEELING OFF STUFF ON THE INSIDE OF OLD TANKS, ETC. ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED.

No real tip here, other than the fact that not all marinas have ethanol blended fuel. I made sure the last 2 times I fueled that it was straight gasoline, not the E-10, then used Sta-bil in my tank. I am on the hard for 6 months at a time, and I've never had an issue.

We now have automotive stations with E-85, but none on the water (so far). That'll wreck havoc on a fiberglass tank, plus who knows what other issues.

Read a Merc service bulletin yesterday. The first thing they said was to drain the tank. After that they did go on to say , if you can't , just fill it and use stabilizer. Glad to here that because I already did that. ;)

Well , it's down to "weeks" now till we find out what's going to happens with last years gas in the tanks.

I have been using E10 and E15 for years. I don't do anything different than I did in the old days. It will clean up the fuel system, if rust or scum in the tank it will clean it up, if thats the case cary extra fuel filters and change often until things clear up. I can imagine much stuff forming in the fuel tanks though. Just some thoughts from an old farm boy.

Notwithstanding the fact that our lake (Dale Hollow, TN) refuses to accept any blended fuel...we still subscribe to Star Brite's "Star Tron" & "EzStart." Most iof us at our marina use this product & haven't had any problems over the years. We leave our boat in 24/7.

Been using E-10 for years in Md. This is what I do and with good results. I full the boat up to the tippy top, put in Startron fuel stabilizer which is formulated to not allow the fuel to separate. Then take a 45 min boat ride to put it away for the winter.
