Exhaust pipes over Yanmars

Has anyone changed the chrome pipes that run over the engines from the riser to the downward elbow that runs to the muffler box. Mine have developed several little holes due to oxidation. I have looked into truck smoke stack, Stainless Steel tubing, etc... I could replace with fiberglass tubing, but I love the chrome look.

The measure 5" in diameter and are 36" long.

Stainless Marine has them but they are expensive. Check my post on the water back flowing into the turbo's on the Yanmars. You may want to look at the system before replacing anything that you already have.

Hello Nate,

I did read your post. In fact, while I had the pipes out i remembered your post and took a look at the elbows. They looked good. Very little rust, if any. I found a company that sold me 5" diameter 316 Stainless Steel for $87 each 36" piece. I will either polish them or have them chromed after I receive the tubes. Chroming the tubes should cost about $50 each.

Thank you for the reply.

Keep us posted on how your finished product turns out. I am starting to get slight oxidation on my pipes also.

My elbows are in good shape also, take a look inside the turbo to see if there is any oxidization on the blades or the turbo housing. It's worth taking a good look, it took me a couple times to realize what I should be looking for and what I was seeing.

La Cozzi, Can you tell me where you found the pipes? I'm getting new risers made and I would like to replace the rest while I'm at it.
