I want to run a Honda 2000 and they tell me I have to purchase a "companion" generator that has the plug that fits my yellow shore power plug???????

I think you could purchase a adapter like a Hubbell part HBL61CM22 that would allow you to plug into a straight blade receptacle and use the other end for your shore power connection. Marinco also makes the same part. Not a Electrician but I think that might work for you if I am reading the question correctly.

A companion generator has the 30 amp plug already installed, and would be my choice. The regular eu2000 has 20 amp household receptacles and can be used with a 30 amp to 20 amp adapter like mentioned above.
Just for general knowledge, the 2000 watt will not start your a/c, but the 3000 watt will.

funny you should ask!

i guess my GPS was on all the time! didn't know since it has a cover. killed the battery in 10 days with no visit.

also we hang at the dock for hours (8) playing tunes. charging phones. running internet. all tons a gadgets.

thanks everyone

so the ONLY reason for the generator is to run your battery charger?? If that is the case, why not an extension cord and an outlet? is electrical service not available where you dock?

nope no power at all.

just seems cheaper then taking the boat out to get everything charged up.

thanks for the reply

Yes, the adapter that easy mentioned or an equivalent will work just fine. I did just that with a Honda 2000 before installing a true genset.

The extra $$$ for the companion generator doesn't buy you anything but a different plug - same capacity output of ~ 16.7 amps.

Look up your battery charger specs, you may even be able to get by with the 1000 generator since you're not looking to use ac, electric stove, etc.
