Is this an f233 hull??????

Sorry for the double post, I placed this on the general discussion board but Vintage seemed more appropriate.

I bought this boat last September dirt cheat with a rotten deck. The previous owner ( 2nd owner) purchased it in Florida in 1991, it's registered as a 1989 Enterprise 240 Coastal. Apparently Enterprise was a custom builder that purchased hulls and refit for specific fishing needs. I haven't been able to find out squat about the Enterprise company and therefore couldn't get any specs to help in my rebuild to a center console.

On another website forum a guy told me that this hull looks like the f233 and that I should ask the experts over here to confirm. Well, here it is.

I used the boat all last Fall striper fishing, soft deck and all, and the ride was incredible. If this does turn out to be an f233 hull I think you guys are going to be my new best friends.

Buy the way, the deck and consoles are almost completely removed, fun work, especially in the 20 degree weather we had this weekend. She WILL be back in the water this Spring so it ain't gettn' done by itself, my family thinks I'm nuts.

Nope, 233's have a rounded keel and should have a downturned hook area on the outside back 1' of each side of the hull bottom.

Hawkeye,

Sorry for the bad pictures, I just went out to take a couple more showing the downward turn on the as you described and the rounded keel. Are there any more characteristics that will help positively identify this hull?

Whadya think Hawk?? Looks an awful lot like the 233 hull - especially w/ the transom bump-out.

240 - does the chine nearest to the V (lower of the two chines) in the hull end @ 2/3's of the way aft? Do you have any foredeck shots on the inside?

The freeboard looks low, but that could be b/c of the flat top deck mold - like on the '71 CC's. Interesting boat - never heard of it. You are going to love it as a center console if it is the same hull. Good find.

kitebuz,

Yes, the lower of the two chines does end 2/3 the way to the aft. Here's a pic of the foredeck. Any other pics of characteristics you guys need?

Only other pics would be to start a thread to document and show pics of your re-build progress..

Do you have any pics of her in the water? Hard to be sure w/out seeing it in person, but I'd put my money on that being a 233 replica...

Anyone else?? Maybe 74formula233 (moderator), can make you an honorary formula member... ;)

That down turn on the outside edge comes down farther on my formula. I think it goes almost all the way down to the edge of the chine right at the transom. The top side is different more like a aquasport. The bump out looks different and more like albemarle which was a change over from the formula.

Hawkeye,

You're right, my hull doesn't have the downturn hook in the same place as your hull. What's interesting is that my hull does have the hook, but it's farther inward towards the keel. Do all Formula f233 hulls have the hook in the same place as yours or did Formula make modifications to their design during their run with the hull mold?

Also, since the transom bump-out is squared (Albemarle) as opposed to an upside down V (Formula), I'm assuming this hull probably came from Albemarle's mold. Did Albemarle change the location of the hook? Maybe.

Thanks for all your help, I do enjoy the hunt to find out the origin of this hull and, who knows, we might learn something that could assist future projects with this impressive hull, no matter which company used the mold.

24Coastal, I parked my boat right beside a mid 80's 24 albemarle one time at hatteras and was able to compaire the bottom side by side. There was absulutly no difference in the shape, with of strakes and chines ot the hook and downturn spot. No difference in the top cap either. The newer albemarles amy of widened the outside chine but not sure. That is about the only mod I would want in the original hull.
