Kenwood KTS-MP400MR upgrade on 2008 34PC

Today, the Kenwood head unit (model KTS-MP400MR) went out.. I'll check tomorrow to see if replacing the fuse helps. Jlanka, can you provide more details regarding the step-by-step to replace the Kenwood with a Fusion? Does it require splicing wires?

It was very easy and straightforward. I just read the manual for installing the Fusion, and all the necessary wires were already there for the Kenwood nothing tripped me up.

Thanks jlanka, but can I get clarification on your comment: "Front 2 speakers wired in, and the rear 6 plus sub all connected via RCA". Are you saying that you only needed to splice the color wires in the old harness to the new Fusion harness (following the manual), and that the other wires (remote cable, Sirius tuner cable, rca plugs for amplifier) coming into the old Kenwood simply "plugged in" to the Fusion? Just to confirm that we have the same setup, I am attaching the wiring diagram of my unit that I got from Formula TAG. My unit has Sirius, a "switching unit" that connects to the ipod connector, the CD changer, and the two remotes (dash, swim platform). If we do have the same system, does all the old equipment (remotes, CD changer, ipod, amplifier, AUX jack at helm) work with the new Fusion head unit using the old wiring (except for the new harness)? PM me if you prefer we talk by phone to answer all these questions. Appreciate the help.

Yes exactly (re: the speakers/sub/amp). Sirius, I don't use so I didn't even bother trying to wire it in. I believe Fusion makes their own Sirius unit. I disabled the remote (I only had one on the dash), since the Fusion head end allows you to control via app from my phone. Fusion also sells their own remote, but again I don't feel I need it since I can control it from my phone AND from my Simrad NSS EVO3 units. AUX jack not really needed any more either, since Bluetooth is far superior. What's a CD? (LOL - my Fusion has it's own CD/DVD player)

Hope that is enough to go on.

Jeff

Sorry to be a scavenger here, but if you are ditching all the Kenwood stuff and removing the ancillaries (switch box, Sirius receiver, etc) would it be possible to take them off your hands? I'm not requesting you go digging for them, but if they out anyway I would love to have them available to play around with.

The old unit came back to life, but only after the 2nd pass of disconnecting, cleaning, and reconnecting the old wires. The old 10-amp fuse looked OK, but I changed it out anyway. It works using either the old or new fuse. Whats puzzling is the connection to the remotes. The wire diagram from Formula shows a Y cable coming of the head unit and attaching to the two wires going to the remotes. The wire going to the transom remote was disconnected, and there is no Y cable, yet both remotes still function even though the only remote wire connected to the head unit is the one for the helm remote. If the unit goes out again, glad to let you have it.

Good news that you were able to salvage its operation! That does sounds weird. There has to be a splitter somewhere, but I guess where that is is anyone's guess. I have found my fair share of "interesting" wiring solutions since I purchased mine.
