Kohler 5ecd will not remote start

I have an 07 310 SS with the Kohler 5ecd generator. I can go to the generator, switch the toggle to run and it starts up and runs perfectly until I shut it down. If I then move the switch over to auto and try to start the generator from the remote panel in the cabin, nothing happens. The switch in the cabin is a momentary on switch that starts and stops the gen. If I hold the switch down for 7 - 10 seconds, the generator will start and run until the let my finger off the switch at which point it will shut off. I'm fairly new to the gen (and boat) and am not sure what to check next?

One other possible item of note. I read somewhere that when the red toggle switch on the gen is switched to AUTO, the screen will display the hours even while the gen is off. My display is blank until the gen starts.

In case anyone is experiencing the same issue, the fix for this ended up being the controller board on the generator. Once that was swapped out, all is well.

Glad you found the problem and thanks for following up wth the fix. Probably will help someone out in the future.

As a matter of fact I am just experiencing the same problem, I have to keep holding the on/off generator switch in the main console, after a few seconds the generator will turn but wont start. If I push the start button in the generator itself it starts and runs fine, mine is a Kohler 9EKOCD, thanks for the tip kboxx

Have the same problem on the Kohler 9EFOZD. Does not start on the remote electric panel with the AUTO mode, but starts fine on the generator itself. In addition, it now comes up with UU fault code after starting normal and running for 10 seconds.. (Means UNDER VOLTAGE)
New board looks like a pretty expensive fix, 1500 USD?
Would be nice if it was possible to find a way to fix the control board 🤨

Undervoltage could possibly mean that the motor part is not running correctly therefore not putting out enough voltage. Everyone swears that changing the spark plugs fixes a lot of issues. You still may need a control board but it seems like you have two separate issues.

It turned out to be a control unit issue. A new Voltage Regulator was wired in, (Datakom AVR-12) and all fine.
