I have a kohler 7.3 on my 2007 37 pc with 685 hrs on the gen. I've had a series of issues with the generator. The latest issue is low compression, 30/90 psi. Obviously a major engine overhaul or replacement is in order.
Also considering a new gen set, the current kohler 7.5 is not only expensive, the exhaust is opposite of my gen. I've been told by TAG that the wiring for the remote start is different etc.
I was looking for a replacement long block. Kohler parts diagram describes a "crankcase complete", part # GM 359715, so far kohler factory has not been very helpful in defining exactly what is included with this part. I've had various answers from kohler distributors as well.
The latest answer from Kohler regarding that part number is that it includes every part in the diagram but they would not answer if it includes the crank, rods, Pistons, valves etcetera.
Anyone have any information about this part #?
I'm also interested in other owners experience with their Kohler 7.3ecd generator, support from Kohler Factory, Kohler distributors etc. Any owners looking at replacing or rebuilding their kohler?
If kohler and Formula engineered a cost effective replacement package for the new 7.5 or 10.0 EKD would you consider it?
I should say that 2 distributors, Colburn power and parts for techs have been very helpful. Mitch at Boat Energy has also been very helpful,
