Kohler 7.3 surges intermittently

The gen starts up and runs fine. Then intermittently starts surging about 4 or 5 times, smooths out and then runs fine again for about an hour or two. This surging is NOT caused by a demand for power associated with the AC cycling or Fridge, Ice Maker, Microwave. Those power demands cause ONE surge and then the RPM smooth out instantly. 460 hrs on the gen. Coolant, Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter all new. Fuel Shut-Off Solenoid acting up???? Thinking of temporarily disconnecting that solenoid if the surging acts up again. Any other thoughts?

I had a similar issue and was told to change the plugs. The plugs were only one season old but I did anyways. Solved the issue.
I was told these gennys eat up plugs really quickly. My gen only had a 100 hrs on it.

Good stuff guys. I'll change the plugs. Why one range hotter Afratki? I'm running on 91 octane E-0 marine gasoline.

One of the plugs tend's to foul (I believe it was the back one). I read somewhere a recommendation to run a hotter plug which will have less tendancy to foul.

As I found out, the hard way, after spending over a grand changing fuel system components -- VALVE LASH is part of the annual maintenance. Incorrect valve lash, which will happen over time with wear, can cause intermittent issues.
