Kohler Generator Issue

I have a 2008 Gas 7.3 ECD (fuel injected). The generator starts right up and runs fine. If you watch the display screen it keeps going through the crank cycles, 1, 2 and 3. When the third crank cycle times out the generator stalls and the over crank code is thrown. I can reset the switch and it will keep doing the same thing. When I put the boat away for storage last year it ran fine, now this. For some reason the generator is not recognizing that it's actually running. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Either the signal that the control board uses for "running" is bad, or the control board itself. I have to look at the manual at some point and see what the unit cuts crank on.

I found on my kohler sometimes just clearing the codes doesn’t fix it when the controller goes wonky. Unplug the harness from the controller for a few minutes and that should give it a hard reset. Worth a try.....

I'll give it a try. Kohler recommended a service company but I can't get them to come take a look at it.

Most likely your low oil pressure sensor is bad - or your not generating oil pressure. When the engine comes up to speed the low oil pressure sensor contacts are supposed to open. This tells the ECM that the generator is running. If those contacts don't open then the ECM doesn't think it's running and will trigger the 2nd and 3rd crank cycles. I would start there. Step 2 would be the crankshaft position sensor.
