While I am bummed not to be joining the crew this year at the nugget, I will unfortunately have time for one real trip this season. With AC being basically my home port (boat is in Margate/Ventnor most of the season) I want to venture somewhere different.
I have decided to leave from my second home port (englewood NJ) and venture to Newport. I have never gone north by boat and have only been in the sound once. All of my boating has really been south. My plan is to leave either at noon this Thursday or Early Friday and Return on Sunday to Englewood.
I really need any info you folks can provide that might be helpful. I am planning on trying to stay on the CT coast side as I make my way up to Newport. I am not sure if I will need to stop for gas or not as it looks to be about 120NM or so to Newport from NYC. I am hoping I can make it on one tank but I will watch and be prepared to stop if needed. Seems like Clinton might make a good refuel point if needed.
Sunday weather looks to be iffy already but if I get an early start I think I will be well in the sound before the real rain comes down and hopefully while wet will be uneventful trip.
Has anyone made the trip? any idea how long it will realistically take me? again, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thx in advance
