only runs with starter switch held

My kohler 7.3 will not run unless starter switch is held . It makes proper voltage but shuts down as soon as start is released. I've disconnected the oil sender and the temp sender in the exhaust outlet but still no luck.
I was told it might be a circuit board due to the fact LED#4 is not lighting up. Anyone else have this issue?

Just fixed a similar problem. Though interesting yours is supplying correct voltage. I would check the field flash voltage off the voltage regulator to make sure there is 12 volts present. If not, there's your problem. If you don't know how to do that let me know.

If the K1 LED does not light then then you have a bad relay and need to either replace the relay (if you know how to do printed circuit board repair) or replace the circuit board - this is based on the fact that you said there is AC output. If the K1 LED is lighting that means the circuit board has passed the power requirement of the fuel pump, choke heater, and solenoid from the starting battery voltage to the output of the genset. It is possible that the voltage regulator is not sending the flashing voltage back to the main field which is causing the output to fail - so check that. It's the black and white wire off voltage regulator - should be 12volts. If that is fine then I'm guessing that the K3 LED is staying lit or the K5 LED is not coming on (about 5-10 seconds after k1 LED), then one of the other relays is bad and replace the board.
