Radar this coming season........

I'll be buying a radar unit this coming season........long needed ::)

Looking at the JRC 1500 MKII. Seems to be just the perfect unit for this sized boat at a damned good price (~$900).

I see open arrays on boats like mine, and it is such a waste IMO because they aren't even mounted high.....it's all line of sight so what good is the power unless you want to pick up birds?

Hell, to pick up birds, you need to really spend some dough, over $6k.

What do you guys think?

I personaly like the Radar overlay feature on the chartplotter. I had a ray c70 set up with fishfinder, radar 4kw, chartplotter, KVH 1000 digital compass to use the marpa feature on the radar... This all cost me about 3800 from john at tightline rods.

if you just need it for emergency when the weather fogs you in the a less expensive radar only unit is great, if you already have a gps.

Yeh, I've got Garmin 182C Color Chartplotter & Si-Tex CVS 106L Color Fishfinder. Just need radar for navigation. I tried the JRC unit on a friend of mine's boat, and it was a nice unit! Does everything the $1500 Furuno does LOL. ;)

This is an almost radar needed situation. 10 am about 5 miles north of Fairlee Creek Marina

I agree, from all the research I have done a radome is just perfect and the open array would be an overkill like you said. I have seen a lot of people praising the JRC radar and it's quality but also seen that Furuno tops them all in quality. I have the C80 setup with radar and that works very well.

Hi everyone,

If you have any questions about electronics you can ask John. He helped me out when I outfitted my previous 27PC. He also has an awesome selection of Electronic goodies to choose from. And his prices are great!!

John, Did Ray Marine correct the tracks interval yet? I see new update software, but not sure if that is it?

I'm not quite sure you've got yourself covered..... :D

LOL, yeh I bought a Life Raft & EPIRB at the Providence Boat Show a couple weeks ago. Now I need the Radar lol.

Been a slow process equipping the boat but she'll be FULLY equipped finally now LOL. ;D

Ok, almost done. Put in the 3010 head unit on Sat, mounted the radar Dome on Sunday and fished the wires for the Radar, GPS antenae and XM radio / weather down the arch and to the dash. Monday night wired it all up to power and tested. So far so good. Tomorrow I will install the shoot thru hull transducer and wire the sounder box.

Then its all done 8)

Also will find a place for the 4 man life raft, epirb and the ditch bag. Talk about an insurance policy ;D
