Raymarine Chartplotter Software Anomaly

Hey guys,

I just updated my Raymarine E-Series Chartplotter to V4.29 software, and all is well........except...... I've lost my groundspeed readout on the plotter. Since the update, it's reading 0.0 all the time.

I can't find anything in any of the menus which would have turned this input off. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same on my '08 34 PC with E120, update and Platinum Plus. Spent a hour this weekend, but couldn't figure it out. I'm going to e-mail Ray marine today. Will let you know what they come back with.

Hofstet,

If nobody chimed in here with an obvious solution, I was going to give Raymarine a call myself, but you are already ahead of me. I would be most interested in what they have to say, and look forward to hearing of your findings.

Thanks in advance for sharing what they have to say.

I updated mine, and I do not recall losing ground speed. HOWEVER I can triple check this weekend...

I updated mine last June and there are no issues. My SOG works fine.
I remember having to do a couple of resets though. Did you already do this ?

If not here is the Raymarine link to upgrade :

Note : All you need is an older cheap CompactFlash card with either 256 or 512 MB of memory. No need to spend tons of money on a 2 or 4 GB card which is mainly all you can find on the store shelves these days. And of course, a card reader/writer which is under $20. This will allow you to easily perform software updates as they become available.
Alternatively, RayMarine has a program where they charge your credit card $40 when they send you a compactflash card with the new software, and then credit your account for the full amount upon receipt of the returned compactflash card to RayMarine.

Utah1,

I had already done the update to V4.29. However, I was unaware a reset was required after the software update, which accordingly, is something I had not done. I did the reset today, and we'll see if this resolves the issue next time I'm under way.

In the meantime, I noticed that there was an available SOG/COG data bar selection now, which was not an available choice with the old software. The old version had a "speed" window only, but now I have "speed" and "SOG/COG" choices. "Speed" did not work after the update to V4.29. Judging from the new available selections, I'm encouraged. We'll see.

Thanks for the tip.

I upgraded mine this past weekend and didn't notice the missing information.

I reset mine twice per the instructions - did everyone else reset twice?

I also used an old 128MB CF card with photos still on it - as long as the update files are in the root it will work. You can also backup Waypoints and routes to the same card.

Pretty easy upgrade.

Does it say to reset twice? I hadn't seen that. I had borrowed the CF card from another boater to do the update, so I never looked at/for instructions.

Upon my anomaly, Raymarine just advised me to do a reset. They didn't say anything about doing it twice.

Below is the part of the instructions..

3.Perform the Factory Reset to the E-Series MFD. Complete step-by-step instructions are available online in FAQ 1332: Factory Reset procedure for a Multifunction Display .
4.Power off the E-Series MFD.
5.Perform a second Factory Reset to the E-Series MFD.

I verified that I am indeed getting my SOG reading...working just fine. So hopefully the reset's will work. If not, you might want to try the upgrade process again, following the resets, etc.

Best of luck!

I spoke with Raymarine tech. and he walked me through procedure to change from "speed" tp SOG. I set my screen up with SOG,Water Temp & Depth. Works great.
