Winterizing AC

I need help winterizing the AC, can I: Add pink AF to the strainer, run it through and call it a day?

Yep...as long as you see the pink coming out the "exhaust"...been doing this way on my formulas for 10 years and no problems.

Of course I clean the filters and make sure no water is in the "pan" as well...but that is about it.

Is your boat out of the water I hope? You still have to blow the water out from the valve to the strainer so the strainer doesn't freeze.

I go the opposite way, I put a hose in the out hose that connects to the large manifold. this way i flush all the mud and crap out of the unit. kinda like a back flush.

What if you're staying in the water and want to leave the heat on? Any danger? Everything else has been winterized.

If you keep the heat on you should be fine. only issue is if you have a power failure.

I would only do this if i were going to be on the boat at the least every other day.

I'm trying to winterize my AC. I removed the hose from the ball valve and I can not get the pump to draw the antifreeze through the strainer and through the system. Any tricks??

YOU CAN WINTERIZE THE A/C ONE OF TWO WAYS. REMOVE THE DISCHARGE HOSE THAT LEAVES THE BOAT FROM THE LARGE BALL VALVE, FLUSH BACKWARDS WITH WATER TO REMOVE ANY DIRT OR SILT, AND PUMP ANTI-FREEZE IN EITHER FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS WITHOUT USING YOUR PUMP. YOPU WOULD NEED A SMALL BILGE PUMP IN A BUCKET OF ANTI-FREEZE.
YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE AMOUNT OF DIRT THAT WILL COME OUT OF YOUR CONDENSER BY BACK FLUSHING IT.

FYI:
I removed the top cap off the strainer and drilled/taped a 3/4 fitting in it. Put a ball valve on then added a garden hose hook-up. Now I can flush the unit with the thru-hull seacock closed by opening that top "seacock" valve. Works great for flushing or use a bucket of RV antifreeze to winterize the system.

my dad made a little steel bracket with a garden house attachement on top fits right on top of strainer then use pump and buckett and flush. Have used the other way too suction cup coverting intake on bottom and sucking through system works too.
