Change Battery Configuration (separate house from start battery bank)

While I don't have a 34 and wasn't looking to do exactly what you're doing, I did totally reconfigure the batteries on our boat. I made a bunch of cables and used some terminal posts to simplify the layout but didn't mess with the switches or add any ACR's. I learnt in the past not to rely on...

How-to: convert your Merc raw water pump to crank-driven Johnson (take 3)

Just bringing this back up with an important PSA. 4 years later, this is what that billet aluminum hose adapter looks like. Not good, and my boat is used in salt water but always flushed and stored in fresh water (come through the locks into freshwater Lake WA). The purpose of this piece was...

    Generator Running Costs / kWh

There are way too many variables to provide a blanket answer. I don't think you'll find real-world data because not many will have a flow-scan hooked up to their generator's fuel line for logging consumption. It's going to vary by generator make & model, but my little 3kw westy is supposed to...

Cut off ac switches behind shore power connections

This is there to protect the boat's wiring from the shorepower plug to the panel (in the case of a faulty shoreside breaker). There's really no need to use it unless you have to do some work behind the ac panel and you don't feel like jumping off to shore and disconnecting there.

    Local canvas shops

Looking to get new canvas done for our '04 31pc. Has anyone had new canvas made for their boat locally and was pleased with the job? I'll also check with Ameritex, but I may want the more rigid isinglass compared to the factory stuff. TIA!

    FYI on Spotlight Replacement

The pan (left/right) function of my original ITT/Jabsco 5" spotlight stopped working, and ITT/Jabsco replacement lights are like $1,800. The motors are soldered, pricey (~$90) and somewhat hard to find. If you're not into repairing, I just wanted to let folks know that the Marinco/Guest 22040...

How-to: convert your Merc raw water pump to crank-driven Johnson (take 3)

Last season, I had an impeller go out on the stb motor (350 MAG MPI). (I never change them until they fail because they're a bit of a pain to get at.) The first outing this season, I was in a rush and left the dock without checking everything over and quickly got the beeps. Turns out that same...

How-to: convert your Merc raw water pump to crank-driven Johnson (take 2)

Anyone know how to contact a moderator of this forum?

About a week ago, I did a fairly lengthy write-up of how to convert your expensive Merc raw water pumps to inexpensive Johnson crank-driven pumps, and when I posted it, I got message that 'a moderator has to approve the post' or something to that effect. I don't see that post posted, and I...

TIP: replacing expensive Mercruiser raw water pumps with Johnson (350 MAG) - how to

I never change my impellers until they fail because it's somewhat of a pain. I changed one last season and ran OK but didn't prime right this season, and I burned it up. I pulled the pump housing (this is the bronze pump), and it had light scoring wear in it. The merc pumps are $$$, about...

Anyone know what kind of glue to use on hatch support?

I accidentally let the hatch (one above the forward bunk) slam down, and one of the supports came unglued from the hatch glass. Does anyone know what bowmar used to glue the support to the hatch? It looks like it could be a cyanacrylate (super-glue) type glue as there's not much - just a thin...

Looking for an Attwood V750 Model 4207 Shower Sump Pump

Got the boat out for the 4th and snapped a few pictures. Here's a before/after for comparison, and loving that fast shower drain! before whale gulper setup and a better shot of that manifold/flow sensor

What's the newest yacht with traditional inboards?

Hi, visiting from the PC board. The Admiral and I are thinking about moving up from our 31PC to a yacht in the next few years. However, I'm a bit apprehensive about the IPS/POD drives. Where we boat in the PNW, it's DEEP (like 400-600ft), and we do hit stuff from time to time. Also, the...

    generator overheated

This is a little westerbeke 3kw that I installed. It quit all of a sudden after running for 10 min or so. Let it cool, and it cranks but doesn't start. I cleaned out a bunch if eel grass that got sucked into the sea strainer. I have spark. Will try some starting fluid, but then it's time for a...

winterizing raw water pumps, boat in water

We've always had our boat on a lift, but this winter we decided to put her in a covered slip for the winter. We've got B3 horizon motors with factory closed cooling (full). I use a bilge heater and in the past took out all the blue plugs in case the power goes out. This completely drains the raw...

Trick to removing cabin overhead light bezels?

LED-ing the whole boat and can't get the cabin lights off. I got the ones in the head which are the same fixtures, but I can't budge any of the cabin ones. Is it the tension from the headliner? Is there some trick that I'm missing? TIA

    Real-world 31PC fuel economy

As some of you may remember, fuel economy was an important consideration when we were choosing between a 31PC and Regal 3260 as we make regular trips from Seattle to the San Juan Islands, about 80 miles each way. On our recent trip, I broke out the GPS & Diacom software and logged some...

    TV Upgrade for "vintage" 31PC

    Adding generator to '04 31PC

Hi, I picked up a Westerbeke 3kw generator that I will be installing in our '04 31PC next month. Even though this is a different gen than the factory Kohler, I'd like to follow the factory setup for water intake and fueling as much as possible. Could someone do me a huge favor and snap a few...

    New (to us) Formula 31pc

A few months back, I asked for experiences with the 31PC versus Regal 3260 as we were shopping for our next boat. We were having a tough time weighing the relative merits of two particular '02 models. This forum put us deeper in the Formula camp, and while we didn't end up buying either the '02...
