Good Morning All!

First post here and happy to be a new member.

I just purchased a 1990 Formula 36PC - It is in great shape but there are a lot of things that I am looking forward to fixing up. One of them is the hatch screens - Those definitely need to be replaced. The screen replacement would be easy, but getting the frame out seems a bit more complicated. Has anyone replaced theirs or have recommendations for getting that frame in and out?

Thanks in advance!

If yours are like mine the screen/screen frame are supposed to be connected just like a screen door on a house. It uses the same type of beading although the actual material may be something different. The white trim should have a tab on each side (total of four) you simply flip out and the screen assembly should drop out of the trim ring. If the actual white trim ring is damaged or missing that is another story. They are also easily removed by unscrewing the machine screws but finding replacements might not be easy.

In this pic, the trim ring on the left is what I'm thinking you have and you can see the little flippy tab thingies. The eight holes are where the trim connects to the hatch. The trim ring on the right is the same thing, only for a larger hatch and it has been modified.

Good Morning Formula 10,

Thanks for the reply and information! I went out to the boat to take a look but mine seems to be a bit different than the one you have. Looking at it from the top down, I can see The whole screen and bead-track which means I should be able to replace it from he top - It may be tight but at least it is a potential solution. The good news is that the screen slides fore and aft, so I may be able to get some more leverage on it that way. Otherwise I may be able to drop the screen out by removing the hatch itself, but I would hate to do that. I replaced all the screens at my house with a really good black 'pet screen' that helps reduce the sun glare - The stuff is really strong and think I will put the same in the boat. I will post a picture when it is done. May be a few weeks - The weather here in MO has been colder than usual - 80 last Friday, 30 and snowing this morning. lol

Thanks again for then reply!!

These Skyscreen by Oceanair hatch shade/screen combos are pretty awesome if you are looking to upgrade. It allows you to have open air flow, screen cover or light blocking shade all in the same package just slide the handles. Beats the hell outta fighting with those screens and hatch covers!

Thanks for the tip and image! I took a look a the manufacturers site and it looks great. Looks like this might be on my list soon. :)
