Has anyone had a problem with salt water leaks from the motors.. Not only were the manifolds always wet before I replaced them but a plug that was used by Merc at the front of the intake manifolds failed and salt water sprayed everywhere for hours.. They used female cast plugs instead of males that would have been fine.. Stupid mistake on their part.. Lots of damage..Any input anyone might have I would appreciate..
Thanks,, Jim

On my 1999 34PC the risers to manifold was my big headache. After 3 years I replaced them with Oscos. Better design. More drain plugs on the manifold to get the water out. I also coated the riser gaskets with a very thin coating of Permatex Black. Even though they tell you not to use anything, the Permatex does make a difference.
As for failed plugs, I had one fail near the thermostat housing. Developed a tiny hole. I was out in the Atlantic when that occured. Luckily, I caught it before there was a mess. Put a stainless sheet metal screw with some teflon tape in the leak. Was fine the rest of the day. I had a brass spare on board, but I didn't feel like messing with it while out in the ocean.
