Joystick won't power on
new battery
fuses good
Used lewmar troubleshooting guid
jumped solenoid & thruster works both directions
new black box no change
new joy stick no change
could the dash switch be culprit? It lights up

Windlass works fine

any suggestions?

Sounds like the solenoid might be bad. I have had to replace mine twice.

How can I tell if solenoid is bad?
We were figuring it was good because the motor will run when we jump solenoid
Thx

So I called lewmar tech support
turns out there is a thermal switch that is on top of motor under a cap. There are 2 wires there, if no continuity the switch is bad
Too confirm put black box wire that goes to switch to ground-joy stick will work
this is reason the guy ran a new ground wire and it works cause he bypassed the switch
(switch should be replaced cause it stops the motor from overheating)

Before you go off into a wild goose chase, let me suggest the following. If your set up is like mine you probably have two solenoids. One for the windless and one for the thruster. If the are the same, switch them and see if the thruster works. Needless to say, this is assuming the windlass is working.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but if your joystick is the same as the one on my 05 34PC, are you pressing the little “Dimple “ switch and holding it long enough for the small LED’s to illuminate, located on each side of the joystick?

I have been on the goose chase
i confirmed that the thermal switch is bad by bypassing it, so that is the source of my problem

I just find it odd that it worked when you bypassed the solenoid? At that point I don't believe you bypassed the thermal switch. Nonetheless, I am glad you found your problem!!!

I had the same issue and it turned out the the truster works with the emergency battery, if you have it off it wont turn on, at least on my boat
