HI,
we are trying to winterize the a/c system on our boat, but trying to find the best entry point? Can we use the a/c water drain on the starboard side to winterize? there is a cap on it that cant be removed

A/C systems can be winterized two ways. Putting antifreeze into the strainer and sucking it into the system with the a/c pump until it comes out the side of the boat or putting the antifreeze in the discharge and forcing it backwards until it comes out the bottom of the boat at the strainer. On Formulas, going through the strainer is the easiest and fastest method. I personally drill and tap the strainer lid and install a 1/2 inch boiler drain cock permanently to allow easy and fast winterization year after year.

We have used the pump for tge A/C cooling water and alternatively used a hand bilge pump, both worked fine. I disconnected the hose from the strainer and hooked the hand pump to the hose. Then pump until you get undiluted antifreeze out the side of the boat. Don’t stop when you first see antifreeze as it may be diluted with the water in the hoses.
