27 PC Merc Throttles

Shakedown cruise on our new '08 27 PC this weekend. Great boat! Planes quick and leaps to speed. Most disappointment is with the Merc shifters. No feel or feedback whatsoever and clunky at best - and the cover falls off! Rolls Royce boat with Pinto shift levers. Any successful options/suggestions? Boat only has 22 hours so should be no wear issues. Thoughts welcome!

Mmmm, I had a 99 27PC and levers were cool.

Keep in mind you can always change if you have to...

i have clunky shifters also on my 1998 27pc. no feel at all... other than the boat is in immaculate shape. the shifter cables must be getting old. do i just have to have someone replace the shifter and throttle cables??

i would recommend you isolate the throttle cable from the shifter cable and try to determine where the problem is. it could be in the shift/throttle mechanism at the helm, the throttle cable, the shifter cable or a combination of these. i've seen issues like this occur when a cable is not routed correctly so it could be a simple fix, just need to get in there and see whats happenin' ;)

replace in pairs only. there very easy to replace and adjust, need to take time for correct adjustment. hardest part is fishing back through, call TAG and see if they ca. give you correct length and possible cable type. Always use old cable to assist in fishing through side gunnel.

formula tenn is correct in trying to isolate the issue first, no need to spend $$ you dont have to.

Ok - restarting this thread with Spring on its way and a plan now firm in hand. I will be checking and possibly replacing cables this spring.

To refresh, the '08 had only 22 hours on it, but it was a Florida boat that sat in a rack for the most part. Based on a lot of feedback and some helpful input from the selling dealer, it's a safe bet that a combo meal of salt air and idleness has caused the works to get set in their ways. I'm figuring on first doing a thorough once-over on the working ends, cleaning, lubing, and checking routing and pass-throughs for binding or interference.

Anyone have any photos or solid "watch out for this" experience? I'll absolutely be checking in with TAG for cable details and routing. Will photo the operation when I get after it - April-May I imagine.

As per Aw66... - yes, Formula's Technical Assistance Group. They are excellent. You will talk to a knowledgeable PERSON who will engage you and your issue. I could give individual names and contact numbers/email addresses, but everyone that I've dealt with has been great. Good luck!

Thanks Guys, its great to have a forum like this. In the process of purchasing a 2004 27 PC. Have owned a lot of boats and this will be my third Formula.
