Good day to all, so I have been looking for a Formula for months and months. Not sure which way to go. Would really like a PC but dont want to pay $130 per foot slip fee, then looked at the go fast boats really love those but, I am concerned about taking them in open water which is probably just my inexperience. But those are my favorite type. Then started looking at the SS and found a couple nice ones a 1998 280 SS with trailer. The guy tells me that he has had two motors go because he wasnt aware of the " cool Fuel issue" with paint infiltration. So now that I have pretty much decided on this model I hear of this issue. From what I have read it is a problem but, dont see much on it actually causing motors to blow. Is this something i should steer totally away from or is there something I can do for a repair. I understand there was a recall but not sure a boat this old would still be covered. I still have a 1989 357 I am looking at this weekend but, was really leaning towards the 280 SS. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am not certain of all the years that had the issue, but I know the 2008 that I have had the issue. The area in the cool fuel unit under where the pressure regulator is mounted was painted with black paint by the factory. Overtime, the gasoline eats the paint away and it ends up in your fuel injectors. The injectors have a fine inlet screen in them that clogs with the paint chips. In my case, the engines were beginning to run bad due to fuel starvation. That, in itself, should not blow the motor, but I suppose if it is run for a long time like that (lean), that could cause issues.
