330 SS Emergency Engine Hatch Release

??? Dumb question that I need some help on. I just took delivery of an '01 330 SS. Love the boat. Just what I thought it would be and more. Now, how do you get the engine hatch open if a) the batteries are dead; or b) it just won't open via the helm switch? The helm switch is not working, but there are no blown breakers. I was cruising down the ICW yesterday and heard a strange noise that I wanted to investigate and the hatch wouldn't open. Everything else worked fine. I have heard that it won't work if the transom door is not shut, but it was.

Apparently nothing was wrong with the engine as I had no problem over the next two hours, but I still can't lift the hatch. It also made me wonder how you get it open to get to the batteries if the batteries are dead?

I know I am not the first person to wonder about this, but since I bought the boat in a brokered deal, no one gave me the ins-and-outs on the simple things about the boat.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks! That solved half of the problem, and in the meantime Darrell at Formula's customer service answered the other. For a dead battery, apparently the engine hatch can be lifted about six inches so that another (trusting) person can stick their arm in to pull the emergency pin to release the hatch. Also, I may find a panel under the dash that I can connect a battery charger to in the event I can't get to the batteries.

Thanks again!
