330SS engine hatch lift

My 2000 330SS engine hatch lift actuator stopped working, formula replacement is a little expensive. Anyone use aftermarket actuator?

Thank you

Formula uses an 'aftermarket' actuator . . . just got to see which one it is. Did you get pricing through Formula/Dealer or in the aftermarket? It should be about $400.

Yes, they were built at Motion System Corporation in New Jersey. I had the same issue with mine on our 400SS and I shipped my actuator to Motion. They will fix it and bring it back to new condition for much less than purchasing new. This is the route I would recommend. Their website is www.actuator.com. Ask for Tony.

Following this thread for the future. My questions are how did you Keep you engine hatch open? For example, my hatch covers weighs in excess of 400 lbs on my 350 CBR. When I first purchased my boat, the reed switch from the door got misalinged (initial parts quality issue of failing to tighten the reed switch). I couldn't open my hatch. I had to open the emergency access panel on under the rear seat, pull the pin on the top of the actuator rod, and then have 2 other buddies help me lift the cover so I could drop in inside and realign the reed switch pin and then raise the support rod and reattach the rod.
So how did you do this? Once opened, what parts did you send back to Actuator.com and did you keep the engine bay open while out or did it require 2 buddies twice (once to lower it to close it while the parts went out and then once again the parts came back to reopen the hatch?) Sorry for what seem obvious to others but I would be interested on how you did it. Please feel free to PM me on this.

Not sure if this helps much, but when my 350CBR needed its engine pulled, it looks like a 2x4 kept the hatch open:

Okay---that's sorta what I was figuring----last question to Advantage---how long did the process take to rebuild/remanufacture your actuator? From time of shipping to return to you? Thanks in advance.

Alec A, fortunately my hatch actuator was still working but barely when I had it fixed. And a 2x4 cut to length will do the trick to hold the hatch open. Your method is the correct one in terms of pulling the pin from the access panels and having a couple of guys life the hatch if yours is not operational. Also, in terms of what to ship, you will want to remove the entire hatch actuator; that includes the electric motor and ram. From the time I shipped it to receiving it back was about two weeks. Also, there should be enough play in the actuator that connects to the extension to be able to lift the hatch a few inches to reach in a pull the pin too.

I suggest using 2 2x4s to support the hatch. I used one on one side and after the 2-3 weeks it really tweaked the hatch... support both sides to keep it nicer.

was yours completely dead? mine was real loud all summer and luckily made it until haul out time. now it does nothing at all.
thank you

Mine was close to dead. It sounded like gravel mixing in a blender. Motion Systems said the entire guts were shot and needed to be replaced including the motor. It's great to have a hatch actuator that works and now sounds silky smooth. I would go this route before I picked up an off-brand but that's just me and it should save you money. Getting a replacement from Formula was $900, ugh!

I just talked to Danny at motion (forgot to ask for Tony) he said at most should be $325 so I am shipping it to them.

Thank you

Awesome! You will be happy! And the $325 will be the absolute worst scenario. Keep us posted.

How do you know if the problem is with the actuator or the motor? When I called Tony to order the motor, he asked me that question. Seems he can order and send the motor but if the problem is with the actuator, he said I need to order from Formula.
