382 with extension boxes

Not sure if there are any other 382 Fastech guys here but maybe someone will stumble upon this. I want to add the neutral extension boxes and I spoke with someone today about a set he had for sale. Well he said I would need to run shorter lower units than my standards. I question this. I am looking at a picture of a 382 with boxes and it looks like he has the standard lower units. I have a email into Formula maybe they can dig me up some info.

Well I gathered all the info I needed on this. If the factory added boxes they raise the X dimension 1.5". So that said I will add the neutral boxes and change the lower units to a shorter 2". Found new transom assemblies for a great deal wish I would have found those before I rebuilt my others. So the winter project is to pull the motors, install boxes, new transom assemblies and short lower units. If you ask why all the trouble. My prop slip is pretty high trying to bring it down and prep for more HP in the future.

Hey Haulin Nuts
So being some what new to the go fast world of boats as a owner
We just bought a 382 a few weeks ago and ordered a ton of new stuff just to update it and on my list was shortie lowers but wasn't sure what the gains would be.

Ive got ext. boxes with XR drives with fresh 500hp's built for wipples but the owner wasn't ready to spend the $$$ yet and decided to sell it before he got to.
So those are on my wish list but we'll see how far this off season I get

Sweet! my bird is getting a whole new back end this winter. Transom assemblies, the neutral extension boxes, new upper gear housings, and the shortie lowers. The short lowers do not ship mercury until the 21st of Dec. If you have not looked through my other thread it may help you if you need help.
