40 PC Stereo Upgrade

I'm going to head down there now to figure out what the Concept sub is hooked up to, wasn't even aware of that and wondering if it's even hooked up (I don't think it is)

LOL the concept sub in the salon /dinette IS hooked up but it's connected to the cockpit amp. So it doesn't come alive if I'm just listening down below and have the cockpit volume on zero. Crazy wiring.

Ok sounds like a plan. What about my question about sacrificing any by just using the 1 MH600/4?

And I just found another amp, pics below. Not sure what that is driving

I'll bet that additional amp drives the cockpit sub (I didn't have that on my 37).

Here's what I would do to use the existing wiring based on everything we now know. Install two JL Audio M700/5's where the large Kenwood's are. Each JL Audio amp is 5 channels so you can bridge channels 1&2 for L channel and 3&4 for the R channel. The 5th channel on one of them can drive the cabin sub that you will replace the Concept with and the other amplifier's 5th channel can drive the cockpit sub under the helm seat. That amplifier will output close to 150/ch when bridged to the speakers and 180w to the sub.

Ok cool. I like that plan. So if I have any questions during the install I'll hire you to be my consultant? [emoji4]

I noticed that the Kenwoods actually have bridged outputs, you reference that a lot but I'm not quite sure what it means.

The Kenwoods can be bridged but they are not setup that way based on the pic......to bridge you can convert two channels into 1 for more power. After thinking about my last email we may not want to bridge the channels on the amp that's connected to the cockpit speakers because Formula wires them in parallel to the 2 channel amp which reduces the impedance, and if the amp is bridged it will not like the 2 ohm load. When it's time to do the install let's connect so that we can talk through it. Regardless, two of those amps will give you plenty of flexibility and amazing performance at a reasonable price. Love this stuff and glad to help---FREE of course!

Really appreciate the assist on this one. Hope to maybe meet up with you some day - maybe out at Block.

Question: What about going with 2 MV700/5i which looks to have more toy features?

The MV700/5i's look like very nice amplifiers with integrated DSP. While more expensive they will allow you to tune the system using the TWK software which is what I use to configure the TWK 88 processor. This will take the performance to the next level....I have learned a lot throughout the process and can share my experiences tuning the system. DSP processing is a game changer.

Yes, would love to meet up...we may make it as far down as Martha's Vineyard this year!

So the MV700/5i has different speaker wire connectors (see below). Does this still allow bridging?

Yes, it supports bridging the channels. The other thing you are going to have to do (since the amps are not easily accessible) is setup a usb port near the head unit preferably so that you can connect a USB cable to the port rather than the amplifier when you want to configure it using the TWK software. Run USB cables from the amps to a couple USB ports mounted flush near the head unit. When you wish to tune the amps all you have to do is connect the long cable that the amps come with to the USB port of the amp you are looking to tune.

Hi everyone. I am starting my speaker upgrade plan. Will go with the Fusion 770 with JL speakers/amp. What speaker do you recommend for the dinnet. It looks like the kenwood 6x9. I don’t see a JL equivalent, although I could get an adapter that charge it to a 6.5”. Looks like there is another 6x9 in the lounge area. Any recommendations on a good replacement for those?

thanks in advance

Check out the JL Audio C2 690 car audio speakers.

Thanks. Will take a look at them. What grill cover did you use for the lounge area?
I now have JLAudio M6 880's where the 6x9's were. I had to modify the cutout and use a speaker ring to get them to fit. When I had the C2-690's installed I covered them with the Formula OEM white speaker grills.

I like the idea of putting in the 880’s in. I’ll take a look to see if I can do the same. I’ll reach out to get some details on how to do the conversion once I get possession of the boat. Thx again for the details.

RC - Would you mind sharing the details of the speaker ring and what you used to make the hole larger ? Did you get them from boat outfitters? What dimensions did you use?. I'll be installing the M6/880s as well.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be taking possession of the boat in two day. Then the fun beings
