fortunate sun, where are you located, and which boat are you looking at? I got a 41PC last year with 8.1HO engines. I had been told the gas boat was slow, you need the diesels. Well, the boat has soooooooo many other positives I have been more than willing to give up the speed for the added comfort and conveniences. The beam makes it so liveable, it rides high and smooth and yes it burns a lot of fuel. If we get 70-80 hours it is a good season, this year it is looking like 50 will make me happy. As others will say, the difference in initial price pays for the added fuel burn. If you are putting on 200 hours a season go with diesels, if you are around 100 or less the gas will be fine. I can cruise now about 23mph @3500RPM's, topping out over 33MPH @4600RPM's. Depending on what you are looking to pay, the one's Troy has are top notch. There are a few older ones at really good prices, if you can I would suggest the 496's rather than the 502's but either engine is fine in this boat. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, or come on up, it will give me an excuse to go for a ride!
