45 Yacht

Anyone has million to spare?

Did anyone see thing in person, it sure looks very nice. I love the hard top with front glass enclosure idea.

OK, I am dreaming.

:-\

Has anyone seen this in the flesh? On the photos I can't help thinking the glass area looks a little large...? In comparison to the styling of the European hard-tops it isn't as sleek..... see Fairline Targa 47, Sunseeker Portofino 47, Azimut 43S, etc etc.

What's the general opinion of these boats versus the latest offering from Formula? One thing I would never doubt, however, is the quality. It'll be close to the top for build quality and performance.

Here's my plan....I know it's a LONG way off, but my wife and I love boating SO much, we have actually said that when we retire (Hopefully at age 55) we want to sell our house and buy a "Live-a-board" that we can navigate down the rivers into the big blue for the winter. For the summer, come back up the river into a large lake that we have a quaint little house near by....maybe kentucky or tennessee.

The reason I say this, is I think when the time is right, something of the present day 45 yacht may be just what the doctor orders.

Hi all,

I was able to hitch a ride on the 45 Yacht with Volvo D-9 inboards with Trenton Marine from AC to Trenton NJ. What a ride, Awesome boat! i thought i would not like the windshield but when you open the front window and the large sunroof you get a ton of wind thru the cockpit. you also have a wing window on each side. the wing puts a lot of air on the driver of the boat.

We had 4 -5's in the Atlantic City inlet then she settled down to 1 - 2 footers in the ocean. Ran south to Cape May. Thru the Cape May cannal into the Delaware Bay. The bay was also flat. only wave action i caught in the bay was the wakes from some freighters. needless to say she cut thru them like a hot knife thru butter.

As you throttle her up she slowly climbs out of the water.. Then the turbo spools up and she takes off like a sling shot for a heavy boat. Cruise was right on boat test.com numbers, 32 mph at 2230 to 2250 rpms. fuel was about 42 to 45 gallons per our. you can get her down to 36 GPH at about 24 mph.

Big difference from my 35PC. not sure if i am ready to go that slow of a cruise.. however she is 2x the 34PC. The IPS model per boat test gets about 13 GPH better at cruise but i can not use IPS where i want to keep my boat. just too many stumps and skinny water. The Inboard with prop pockets will work, buddy of mine has a Sea Ray that draws a few more inches then the 45 and has no issues. IPS just has too much stuff hanging around down there. Im not knocking IPS, its just not right for me.

Now i have to get a spin on the 48 Yacht. She performs at almost the same numbers and actually has about 2 mph top end on the 45.

In this photo i am running up the Del Bay/River against a 3knot out going tide.

Shot of the Stbd side running in the ocean. and also a shot of the 40PC with IPS gettn some air

Hey Castine, Glad you finally got a ride in the 45 Yacht. What you did not know was as you stated the turbo spinning up is actually a supercharger on the D-9 Volvo. The motor has both a turbo for low rpm, then down on the left front of the motor as you are looking at it is an air conditioner clutch hooked to a super charger. At around 1900 to 2000 rpm the turbo gives way to the super charger and that is the burst of speed you felt. We have sold 3 of these and they all seem to top out at 40 mph. I also have 2 48 yachts w/660 Cummins inboards and the best I can get out of them is 37-38 mph. I think what really sets them apart is the IPS system and the Volvos are way more quieter to run. The fly by wire steering and shifters are way cool also. Just thought you would like to know.............. 8) Capt. Steve

thats 40mph on the 45 yacht ips model right? i could only get 37mph out of the D-9's inboard at 2470 to 2490 rpm WOT.
