45Y High Water Alarm

My alarm went off tonight. The bilge had the usual amount of water. I'd like to locate the sensor, does anyone know where it is?

There should be another high water alarm inside the cabin. I have a 40 PC but when the shower box stops working it will eventually set off the high water alarm in the cabin.

The sensor is the same as the float switches for the pumps. I'm not sure how you could have a false alarm.

I turned the circuit breaker off, checked the bilge, a/c pump, a/c strainer, and sump box compartment to check for any abnormality, and nothing. Turned the breaker on, alarm goes off. Turned the breaker off. 5 hours of awful sleep later, turned it back on, no alarm. Problem fixed?

Hope you got it fixed, but my guess is its going to go off again. your walking around moved the float switch enough to turn off. Don't have one your size, but my cabin high water float switch is behind the A/C unit. Only way to get at it is to remove the A/C.

Had the same problem this week, couldn't figure out how to shut it off for 30 minutes. In my case some water got into the bilge while I was cleaning the generator strainer. The bilge pumped it mostly dry but the alarm still kept firing when I flipped it back on. Shop vac'd it dry, still went off. Shop vac'd the area beneath the freshwater pump in the aft cabin, then it stopped firing. Called Formula, evidently the sensors are super sensitive and need to be bone dry to stay off.

That makes perfect sense, and in both our cases, it's a good thing to hear the alarm while at the dock for the first time. If while underway, it would be worse, on multiple levels, of course.

These sensors are electronic and not of the float switch type.
Can anyone with a F45 please describe to me where under the guest cabin berth the second sensor is located? I can only find the one in the engine room in the bilge under the ladder.

It should be in the aft cabin under the aft bunk. There will be an access panel that you would lift up on the port side and you should see the bilge pump and the high water sensor.

What Matty says, I’ll add, if you are facing the twin beds, the one aft, nearest to the head. First compartment, all the way towards the center of the berth. You have to look. It just looks like a black fob. The breaker is above the generator to disable it.

Thanks guys.
I had no issue finding the one in the main bilge when the alarm went off so I know what to look for, but I couldn't find the one under the berth in the guest cabin. I figured that it would be in that bilge and examined the bilge and sump box quite well. Theoretically It should be easy to find since it will be connected to a lead wire but nope.... Can someone please give me more information on it's location? It's possible that the previous owner removed it. Perhaps a picture if one of you are at your boats. I'd appreciate it.

Here is one.

If you are looking at the sump box, you are under the wrong bed. Move over to the bed that is on the same side as the head, like I said before. Furthest port compartment with the bilge pump and the transducer as shown above.

I think there is a third alarm all the way aft in the bilge too. That would be between the pods under the hydraulic platform pump by the aft bilge pump.I’m not sure though, I am going off memory.

Wooooo. That totally makes sense. Thanks. We've only had the boat for one month and there is so much stuff (mattresses, carpets, loose TV) on the other berth that I haven't even lifted that mattress to inspect. Looking forward to getting off work and checking it out.

I thoroughly inspected that aft bilge and did not find one. Tom Temple from Formula replied to an email I sent asking about how many sensors there were and apparently there are only the two on our boat in any case. I suppose it makes sense since that bilge is higher than the one under the ladder. The bilge under the furthest aft berth makes total sense. Don't know why I never thought to look there. Thanks so much Dave!

I know this an old thread but did you find your problem? Mine went off and there is no water in the bilge. The one in the rear bilge seems to work off a float switch. When I lift it and alarm gets louder. I'm not sure you would trigger the forward sensor.
