Anybody have one or has had one? I've been staring at a 2006 for a while but I have never been on one. What can you tell me about the boat? Is there anything specific I need to watch out for? What kind of fuel burn numbers would I be looking at? How is the access in the bilge? The boat has the QSM-11's, how are those motors and what kind of maintenance cost are associated with them? Anything else you can tell me would be great...

Thanks,
Aaron

I have a 2004 with QSM. Not much maintenance for us low hour lake users. The change from the older engine to QSM in 2004 required some hull strengthening. It was mainly under the rudder area if i recall correctly. Just make sure if you go to buy an early QSM powered boat double check with Formula. I think it was all resolved by 2005. Doesn't make it a bad boat or any issues after the repair. Mine had the repairs and its stronger now than prior year boats. Chances are all those boats have been fixed by now. Its not like there are 100s of them out there. Heck, I dont think formula made 60 of the 48s over the years.

We love the boat. Just wife, dog and I. Some may think its too big but I like it. Ride is great but we are on a lake not the ocean. Fuel burn for me is about 28 gal and hr at 1800 if i remember. Again on a lake, fuel burn is not something i watch. The front birth is nice, lots of storage, stand along shower is one of the best things. I can't really think of anything that is a total PITA to work on or do as far as regular maintenance or cleaning. The back platform goes down more on one side, i think that is common and would be my biggest complaint.

Since we overnight every weekend t/o the summer we like it comfortable. We replaced 2 a/cs 3 years ago when we bought the boat. Went a little larger in front birth and main cabin. 100 degree TX heat boat set on 78 when gone and it will chill quick and hold well below 70 all day if you want it to. There are 3 ac in cabin and 1 in cockpit which seems about worthless but the heat is nice in the winter.

Boat handles really well around the dock in my opinion. i have never driven a boat this big other than my 48 to compare. I just know i can put it just about anywhere i need to.

It really is a great boat for the money. Everyone who steps on board is complimenting.

Great info dstroyed. How fast are you running at 1800 RPM's? Do you have your boat for sale? I have seen one on boattradder.com that is on lake Travis that is for sale. Prices seem to be all over the place on these. How many hours do you have on your engines?

IDK what our speed is exactly im going to guess mid to upper 20's Sorry we just don't pay attention to that on the lake. Everything is within 10 miles of what we do.

Lake Travis seems to always have a 48 for sale. I am not familiar with the 06 i see listed now. There is a 47 for sale I didn't know about unit i saw it fri going to get something to eat. I think over half of the 48s made were sold here in Austin. AND Yes prices all over the place.

Mine is not officially for sale.

got this info today, half full of fuel, full of water and half holding with 6 people, tabs all the way down

2030 rpm
throttle position 82%
28.5 gph
24.1 mpf

keep in mind that is per engine

IDK for sure but i think my boat has had some prop work. When we bought it we had it hauled out to do a bunch of work to it. The props had markings on them. It just didn't seem logical that a boat 10 years old would still have legible writing on the props.

What is impressive is it idles little over 5mph with one drive engaged and little over 7 mph with both drives. It leaves enough wake with both drives that sometime people make an issue of it. Its not much worse that a wave runner in my opinion.
