I'm curious if actually something new, or investment scam.

How can you re-invent a connecting rod? Eccentric base on the crank side that counteracts the length differences during different parts of the rotation? I guess if you gear it off the crank itself, with the connecting rod as the reference it could work.

How else could they account for that?

Sounds similar to the variable compression of the engines that could vary the conn rod length.
