A/C Control panel HPF fault code

No water pumping thru system and pump not running?? Turned system off and waited about 15 minutes, turned back on and all is well. Pumping what appears to be plenty of water so I don't think the strainer is clogged. Is there a troubleshooting sequence for this fault?

I'm fighting my own HPF codes, I've cleaned it, flushed it, and it freezes up when it doesn't just throw codes and blow hot air. I have a tech coming this week I'm tired of banging my head against the wall on this one. Twarble has posted some good ideas that I'm going to hand off to the tech when he shows up.

The AC pumps are not self priming.
If there is trapped air in the system, cooling water will not flow and system will throw HPF codes.
There should/might be an air purge valve somewhere near the pump that will open (with a pair of vice grips/pliers) to purge the trapped air. Once you see a steady stream of water "geyser-ing" out of the valve nipple, close it, check your thru-hull for good flow there, and all should work without throwing any more high pressure fault codes.
Note: might want to free up/open that valve on the hard if it's the first time it's been opened in a long while.

a couple of things...when you get an HPF code, the easiest and most likely culprit to check is water flow, so checking the strainer is typically the easiest fix. i believe that an HPF causes the water pump to shut off, so that explains the behavior you saw.

if it's not water flow...the reason water flow causes that code is because the system is overheating. the raw water is supposed to extract the heat produced when the coolant is cooled. two other likely culprits...the air filter being clogged. make sure you keep that thing clean. based on when you posted, i wonder if this was when it was smoking hot like it was here? the AC units can only function in water up to 80 degrees. even then, the ability to cool is limited, so if you have it set to 72 and it's 95 out, you're likely to hit an HPF especially if you're water has heated up.

finally...have you noticed marine growth in your system? the easiest spot to inspect is the strainer...but if you've historically seen it there, and have never flushed your system, the heat exchanger itself may be covered internally in growth and need cleaning. i actually did this yesterday, and you'd be shocked to see how much gunk comes out of your system. i used Barnacle Buster, but everyone has their favorite.

hope this helps,

Great Thanks Guys, I'm going to dig in this week.

I'm on my 3rd " reputable " Contractor that hasn't even shown up in the past 2 months. WTH is up with these guys? I mean don't even bother to call or email me to tell me go screw myself?

Thanks Todd, the water pump shuts off when the code flashes as you mentioned. But when the unit is running it appears to be pumping plenty of water. I checked the strainer anyway but it looked good. I think I'll let the unit run until that code flashes again and then inspect the pump for any overheat issues. If it is extremely hot I'm thinking that it might be on it's way out. If the pump appears to be within a normal temperature range I'm going to try back flushing the condenser with the acid wash or Barnacle Buster. If I still don't have a remedy I guess I'll need to figure out how to diagnose the high pressure switch.

I have a tech coming the end of this week / beginning of next but from what I was told this weekend by a marina neighbor it very well could be a $10 Pressure switch that failed or is on the way out.

So I can't wait to finally put this to bed. I'll keep you in the loop

Kicked the air on early Sunday morning (like 4a.m. early) and it ran without issues until we shut it down at about 10a.m. Six hours without so much as a hiccup.

I'm having the same problem. I've got good water flow, strainer is clean, and filter is clean. It will work fine for 1-2 days then randomly shut down with the code. I'll restart and it will run fine for hours or days and trip again.

On my 06 330SS I have an air filter that needs to be cleaned every couple of years. Might want to find the unit and check that out. Mine is aft of the head almost directly under the helm seat.

It wound up being the water suction line got air bound due to the performance hull, and there is a petcock under the floor in the cabin that you have to bleed to get a fresh stream of water with no air in the lines. I found this out AFTER spending $4000 on replacing it.
