AARG! My new (to me) 40PC has a failed gas tank

2007 40PC. Completed the deal last week, brought her over to the authorized Volvo repair shop to have the pods serviced (knew about that beforehand so no surprise there). Marina called me yesterday to inform me the starboard gas tank failed. Pressure test today confirms it.

Oh well... Part of boat ownership.

Thanks for the well wishes. Called Formula TAG yesterday and spoke to Brian. He was shocked that a 12 year old boat had this happen. He is gathering schematics to send over today with removal info. I know engine and hot water tank have to come out. Already having both pods removed so engine removal becomes a bit easier. Filed an insurance claim on it.

My guy at the marina says they will probably cover "discovery" which mean removal and installation. Probably not the actual tank though. If that's the case I'm OK with that at least it's something. I'll post back here what actually happens.

Is this a marina you trust?

Not sure what the inference is, can you expand?

The marina is the local authorized Volvo repair facility. Also certified for the other major manufacturers (Cummins etc). Not sure a business with those sort of credentials would engage in shady activities...

I think I was only thinking that a failed fuel tank is super rare given the construction etcetera.

You should have been showing signs of something how did the sea trial go how does it run you have fuel in your bilge

This was totally unexpected and no signs were there. Sea trial went fine, no smell of diesel any time, even after I closed on it.

So yeah it was definitely corrosion so insurance claim was denied. Tank builder will try to repair it tomorrow, otherwise new tank will take around 6 weeks to arrive. 2 pics below 1 before and 1 after wire brush
