Post on thehulltruth too but maybe some here can help me out...

new to me boat with a garmin 7612 & a airmar b60 transducer that was factory installed. Everything was working just fine for a while and I was able to get depth and see bottom. The last few times I have been out it will stop reading bottom or giving me depth Going slow or fast. Completely intermittent, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Lately it’s more on the doesn’t side. There doesn’t appear to be any growth on the transducer and the wires are all connected solidly. Anyone have any ideas where to start?

Update:
I updated the software yesterday and it still is not working. Now it is acting like it is just not there. before I would get a reading ever now and then then it would hang up. Any ideas? do these things break and just stop working? is there a setting somewhere in the Garmin to turn it on and off? This is my only source depth so this is getting a little frustrating.
Thanks, Aaron

I do have the same Garmin which has been working flawlessly. Did you try calling Garmin they are usually very helpful.

Update: I spoke with Garmin and was told that the temp sensor can go out and that can cause this problem. Quick fix is to disconnect the pin 5 and put a jumper from pin 4 to pin 5. This actually worked and I now have depth. Of coarse I don't have temp but I can live with that...

The temp sensor in my 45 Yacht hasn't worked since new, and I don't care. All I want to know is whether it's too cold to swim, and I don't need any sensor to tell me that. But my Airmar (model # unknown) works great with my 7612xsv since installed last winter for depth sounding, 2 to 200 ft. There's some tweenie box I had to buy to make it work. But so far so good.
