Anti Freeze

Question regarding Anti Freeze - Port Engine has green fluid and Starboard has red fluid, (maybe the last mechanic didn't know either and was turned around when he filled them). I asked my local Volvo parts dealer and he said I have two Choices and either Yellow or Red but it depends on what Volvo states?? OBTW - 2000 Volvo 480's - Any suggestions??

As a non-expert, I would say you want to use the extended drain antifreeze like OAT, which comes in yellow and red. The OAT type AF has protection additives to to help protect cylinder liners in diesel motors. You can use the green but then I would use the Supplemental coolant additives (SCA). I use green in my international dump truck but also add the SCA and also has a water filter

Volvo uses the yellow from what I can find. NAPA has some which should work, called heavy duty and I use it in my backhoe

Thanks
