appliances for cruisers

I was at the Grand Rapids, MI boat show over the weekend, and saw alot of great boats. The Formula display was my first and last stop! Dry Harbour had a great display, a 34PC, two sports, a fast tec, and a bow rider.

While looking around in the different cruiser style boats, I saw many different brands of DVD players, microwaves, TV's, stereos, and coffee makers. Some of these exact models, I see at the local Best Buy. I understand the need for marine grade appliances in bow riders and boats that are "open" to the elements, but curious how the "home" products work on a fresh water boat in the cabin.

My girlfriend saw a combo microwave/coffee maker from LG, in one of the boats, that she thought was cool. I read a couple reviews on Amazon, and one person complained that the glass canister was prone to breakage.

I am looking to add a few small amenities to my 1987 PC 25. Microwave at the minimum, Coffee maker is not a huge need, (she drinks coffee, I don't, and the marina has free coffee!), maybe a stereo upgrade with a remote!

Any input would be great!

Formula uses the best quality products they can in their boats. A lot of the manufactures go for who can give them the best deal on the quantity they want to use. That in turn may be the biggest piece of junk there is, but it was cheaper. Not Formula, if I were you I would mimic the new Formula models.

The coffee maker may not be a big deal now but when she wants a cup some morning when its really raw out the free cup may not look like quite the bargain. If it leads to her "holding you close, squeezing you tight, crossing her legs and kissing you goodnight" you will completely understand the story of the old bull & the young bull. The coffee maker may not be a huge need, the bennies which go along with it might be bigger than you think! Get the microwave, coffee maker, stereo, flat screen tv/dvd and then a bigger boat 'cause you can't stretch out an enjoy it all! Formula's are addictive 8)

pt, that is the language I can understand!!!!

will most likely get all those things.....cept the bigger boat. Need to wait a few years for that (kids in college in a few years)

are "best buy" appliances OK in the cabin, or do I need to be looking at something "marine" rated?

I would think you need to get good appliances and then apply common sense. Not sure about all our stuff but the microwave is a Sharp, the coffee maker is nothing special but only used when we are in the slip or on the hook. When underway it is packed securely to avoid contact with anything hard. Contact the factory or check the marine catalogs for comparison shopping, remember you get what you pay for 9 times out of 10.
