Autopilot installation delay

I also posted this under general topics, but figured I'd look for an answer here also.

I was informed by the dealer that I am buying my 34PC from tonight that they will not be able to complete the install on the electronics package that I ordered. The problem is with the autopilot because a part needed for the steering column is on backorder for a month. They can complete the install now, but I will no longer have tilt steering. We purchased the boat almost two weeks ago with a guaranteed delivery date of next Friday, May 26th. Now they want us to take the boat next week without the autopilot and they'll "finish" the install in a month; which will involve a three hour boat ride each way. This doesn't make any sense to me that a part should be on backorder that long. Anyone else experience anything like this? The dealer is Bald Knob Marina in Il.

Are you storing the boat with bald Knob at the end of the season. If so, and if I understand you correctly, have them finish the install now and go with out the tilt steering. Then at the end of the season, have them finish it so you can get the Tilt steering back.

DId they search the internet to see if any electronic dealer has the part in stock. There are times when things are out of stock and you cant do much about it but wait.

Bald Knob only wanted to do the install once - either with fixed or tilt. They did not want to do it "twice". I threatened to cancel the deal and suddenly they say they have found the necessary part.

You better stick to your guns, if you don't get what you want before completing the sale and delivering the boat then you will just suffer. Ask me, I know.

Best of luck and hopefully you'll be out on the water soon.

ISN'T IT AMAZING HOW A DEALER CAN SUDDENLY FIND A PART THAT IS BACKORDERED FOR A MONTH?
I AGREE, STICK TO YOUR GUNS. JUST BECAUSE THE DEALER CANNOT GET IT FROM HIS COMMON SUPPLIER, DOES NOT MEAN THAT OTHER SUPPLIERS DO NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK. GLAD TO HEAR YOU WILL BE ON THE WATER WITH YOUR NEW PC. KEEP US UP TO DATE ON YOUR DEALER DELIVERY, AND ANY COMMENTS OR PROBLEMS YOU HAVE.

Hi Castines,

You seem to be a wealth of knowledge in many areas. That is great. It is nice to find someone passionate about their boat.
Are you still planning to install autopilot on your 34PC ? IF so, have you come up with a plan on how to attack this issue ? And what costs are you figuring ?
thanks again for your input.

Its easier to buy a 48 Yacht! 8) na just dream'n. I gave up on it for now due to no adapter for Bravo 3 cable steering. you can change over to hydraulic and you good to go. I forgot how much it costs, but since i have not done it yet that a good sign its not really worth it.
