Battery suggestions....

Need some advice...just got on my boat after a month and the house battery is completely dead! I usually leave the boat on shore power with the battery charger on when not in use.

I should have replaced the house battery before now, since the battery originally came with my 2012 310 SS.

My boat from Formula was installed with all Deka sealed batteries. The house battery is a Deka 1231MF with CCA of 1000. I also plan to replace both engine batteries at the same time since they are probably due after 4 years. The engine batteries are each Deka Marine Master 24M7 with CCA of 800.

Would you suggest I stay with Deka or is there a better sealed battery brand you would suggest? Any particular model numbers?

Many thanks in advance!

I replaced deka with deka cause my local retailer sold them, think I paid $80 for the 24s and $125 for the 31s. and I averaged 3 years.

For what it's worth, I have tried all of the "best" batteries with all of the hype attached. After many years of thinking someone created a better battery, my answer, cheap marine batteries. I now use Interstate because my buddy's a dealer and he sells to me at cost!

Plan on 3-5 years worth and then replace. Some have more luck and procedures to preserve them, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. Again, my opinion!

Thanks for the input! The local Formula dealer recommended Interstate sealed batteries, I believe AGM's....said they have a better warranty.

The Deka's have done well, but not sure why Formula originally installed them....because they were better batteries or they got a better deal $$$ on them.

I leave the shore power plugged in and battery charger on when not using the boat, so these have held up well.

Like others tried all kinds of batteries and they only last so many years. I now use only AGM's and not the junk Optima type. Boats get Lifeline, Seadoo gets Odyssey (Sears Platinum are rebadged Odyssey)

Will check out Lifeline too...thanks! As I recall, Lifeline is a well made battery with a great warranty.

I got Duracell's from Batteries Plus. Duracell at the time had a nice rebate of $10/batt and Batteries Plus has a 10% discount for online order with local pickup.

Same above, I changed to Interstate, lasted 4 years and 1/2 the cost on batteries that lasted 5 years.

So...good old lead acid interstate seems to work just fine. Of course in the cabin you don't want those, but in the engine compartment/genny just fine!

I stuck with Deka but changed to batteries I could add water. Guy who stores a lot of boats and sells a ton of batteries indicated the ones you can check and add water to last longer. Have no data on this but he's an hones straightforward guy so I went with his recommendation. Only have a year on them at this point.
