Which Marina's do you prefer and why?

We have always done Champlin's for the Frozen Mudslides and Fuel but we looking to possibly Ballard's or Mahogany Shoals / Paynes. What's your vote?

Champlins.......More stuff to do especially when the kiddo is with us. Pool, arcade, movie theater, and of course the mudslides.

How easy/difficult is it to get a slip at Champlins? What is the best procedure? I notice there are a couple of marinas that have joined dockwa but Champlins is not one of them

Just give them a call. Usually pretty easy to reserve a slip. Only issue like most BI marinas is they may raft you.

Champlins has been our go too the last 4 times there so were gonna change it up a bit this year. But we will still dink over for some mudslides and salted caramel whiskey toppers!!

Yeah Champlins system is still way old school even with the new owner group. Call them they request a check via snail mail as a deposit up until last year. Maybe it's changed this coming year, we can only hope.

New owner group?? Did Joe sell?? Didn't hear of this.

Yeah an investment group bought it, but the same staff is in place last I heard.

I gotta go with Payne's... Mahogony Shoals is literally the bar I have been practicing my whole life for. And it even says so on the shirt I bought there!

I didn't think Champlins sold? The property at the Boat Basin that The Oar is on was sold. It includes The Oar, the land to Champlins AND the land towards Paynes. It was for sale and closed at over 20mm. The owners of Gurney's I understand bought it. I assume that means they are going to develop what is an awfully big piece of land with some serious frontage.

Yes...Gurneys bought that property. It was rented out for years and the estate finally sold it. I hadn't heard anything about Joe selling Champlins.

I have the same shirt too love that bar lol!! Been there a bunch of times and partied but never slipped there. I'm thinking I'll give it a go this year.

From what I was told the investment group bought it late 2017 early 2018 and kept everyone in place, but we all know how "dockside scuttlebutt" goes.

Any info on New Harbor Boat Basin? They are on Dockwa.

Boat Basin is awesome. Great docks and location. Short walk to town. The Oar restaurant on property is also fantastic. They just sold last year but would have to imagine not much has changed.

I do not believe the Boat Basin was part of the sale. It was always separate. I am very curious to see what Gurneys does with the property - I have to imagine they are planning a resort hotel as that is a big property and they paid a TON for it. The Oar will be interesting as well since it has been operating on year to year leases for quiet some time now!

Mahogany did a huge renovation this off season. Enclosed the docks where Sully kept his sailboat behind the bar and expanded the entire bar. Even more to love!

Can't wait to see it, yeah as things firm up I think were going to dock at the basin on our extended trip this season.

No not yet,

We are planning to do a 10 day run, Block, Montauk, Greenport. But one of the guys mentioned that there is a big fireworks display on July 13th in Sag Harbor, so maybe trying to incorporate that too???

I set up at the mouth of Narragansett Bay last summer and caught 4 different fireworks shows at the same time. Jamestown, Newport, Narragansett and Matunuck. Pretty cool.
