Boating from Tampa to Keys?

Asking for a friend. Has anyone taken their PC from Tampa Bay area to the Keys? Seems like Key West is doable with a fuel stop along the way.

Thanks!

we ran my 400SS from Destin to Ft. Lauderdale earlier this year. Made it to Sarasota on the first day then on to Islamorada. It's an easy run if the weather is nice. I would leave from Tampa early, toward Marco for lunch and fuel. After that it's an easy ride in pretty water down to the keys. Watch out for the dam crab traps, they are everywhere.

sorry for late reply..been off forum for a while. I made the trip from Tampa to Key West twice in my '07 31PC. First time went outside all the way to Marco Is, 2nd time too much chop outside so went ICW. However, at Ft Myers you have to make the 30 mi or so to Marco on outside and as a cautionary note, water is fairly shallow around Marco and can be quite choppy if wind is above 15 kts. We took our time and leaving St. Pete/Tampa around 9am gets you to Marco around 5pm. We stay in one of the marinas overnight and head across gulf to Keys next morning...takes about 3.5 - 4 hrs. There's fuel along the way...I stopped and topped off in Venice at a marine max then filled up at Marco for crossing.
