Cabin Bilge Pump Won't Stop

HELP! I have a 2002 27 PC. Where is the cabin bilge pump switch? I've replaced the float switch, but I need to be able to switch it off without having to resort to breaking the circuit on the circuit breaker panel. Is there such a switch?

I have a manual switch at the helm, but this only turns it on. Most bilge pumps are designed not to be turned off so it's not accidentally left in the off position. That being said, if you need to remove power from the pump, you'll probably need to turn off the breaker.

Funny you mention that. I have an aft cabin bilge that won't start. Non-automatic bilge pumps are switch controlled. If you disconnect the float switch, and the pump is still running, then there's a power relay in the pump which is stuck. You'll need to kill power to the pump itself.

Thanks guys! Here's a foto of the electric bilge pump that won't stop vibrating. The round silver plate has a diaphragm in the center and when it's on it vibrates loudly and very strong. I replace the float switch and re-engaged the circuit breaker and it still won't stop. Any further thoughts or theories? Much appreciated!

I doubt there is a manually operated switch. Bilge pumps -- and this looks like the gray water pump as noted before, are typically switchless. The helm switch for the engine bilge is not an on/off. That switch bypasses the engine bilge float switch to energize the circuit. What happens when you disconnect the float switch? If the pump stays running when you disconnect the float switch, that means somehow you've got a loose positive 12v circuit leak. A much bigger problem. If the pump stops when you disconnect the float switch, then it's just a bad float switch... even the new one.

The switch in the bathroom controls this. A few weeks back I heard the same thing and jumped down on the bilge and saw this was running. After trying a few things I realized my kids hit that switch along with the light switch in the bathroom.

Only switches I have in bathroom are lights and fan. The cabin bilge diaphragm pump for mine is turned on by float located just aft of the shower sump box, basically under the a/c unit.

Hmmmm, my '95 has a switch for lights and that bilge switch. Like I said it was definitely running and that switch turned it off. My shower sump also has a float as well.

I have the same issue. The cabin bilge pump comes on with the breaker located under the cockpit sink. There is water accumulating in the cabin bilge that the pump doesn’t clear. It must be a bad pump or a clogged line. Going to check out both this week to verify.

I'll be in my cabin bilge tomorrow. Had to remove shower sump box and replace due to a bad V750 pump which is no longer made. In removing the box it allowed me to access the cabin bilge float. I filled bilge w/ water to clean, the cabin bilge diaphragm pump ran but did not clear either. I'll try and clear line from pump back to bilge pickup, hopefully its a clogged line.

My jabsco diaphragm pump won’t clear the cabin bilge. I checked both intake and discharge lines. I’m guessing it sucked up some of the sludge that was accumulated in bilge and fouled the pump. Has anyone bought a rebuild kit for this pump before?

Sorry for such a delayed response, I have a 2003 27PC (for sale) and I had the same issue with my cabin bilge. Under the mattress in the “aft cabin” just behind the stairs there is a small acces panel in the floor that can be removed which will allow access to the float switch for the cabin bilge. I found the issue was that the bolts that hold the float down were gone and the float switch was laying on its side causing the pump to run constantly or erratically. For those of you with a clogging issue, formula installed a weighted strainer on the end of the pick up tube. My strainer was rotted so I replaced. I am guessing others are rotted as well and clogging their bilge lines. Most small particles that don’t get hung up in the line should make it through the pump as it is a diaphragm but it could tear the diaphragm or get hung up in the thru Hull. Hope this was a help and not just confusing.
