Cabin step ideas?

So the cabin steps are completely delaminating and as many of you know, they are impossible to remove and refinish at least without massive amounts of pain.

Does anybody have any ideas of what I could use to cover the leading edge and still make it look like it was meant to be there?

Our steps were carpeted when we bought the boat. We ripped out the old carpet and had it replaced. Looks beautiful now.

I hear ya...Mine are just starting to do that and I have been looking into a solution as well. I was thinking a flexible bullnose cap to wrap around the nose of the step. I looked at vinyl and small tacks to install.

Haven't tried a piece yet since my steps aren't that bad yet but its coming...if I find something that works and doesn't look hack I will let you know

They make some bullnose for vinyl plank flooring. I don’t know that you will be able to make the bend for the corners or not. Try a heat gun and see if it will bend that tightly or not. I have bent the flooring with a heat gun but the 90 degree bullnose may bunch up if you bend it that far. But it would be worth a try. I would make a pattern of the step and duplicate the step because I think it may be easier to bend it on a work bench than in the boat. Let it cool and then fit it into the boat. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Ebelwood manufacturing does ALL the interior lamination for Formula. https://www.ebelwood.com/products&services/
I am about to send in some of my existing cabinetry doors that have delaminated and they are going to re-laminate for me. Super nice guys and will basically laminate anything pending they still have the wrap in stock.

You could also try a 3M DINOC product or similar (vinyl self-stick wrap) and do it yourself. Wouldn't be that hard to wrap the steps in your picture, assuming the steps are easily removed.

So yes, that is the problem. Getting the steps removed, I can't quite figure out how to do it yet.....

I spoke to ebelwood and Thunderbird as my problem are the rubber inserts not het the wrap. There is a set from Formula for PC's I think 33-40, and it's $1300 for replacement stairs w formed grips in them, like the new boats. Only $1300

For the rubber's, I have the name of the rubber manufacturer in Texas that made them. When we get through my bigger issues if I can get the ribbing I'll post that for others. I the original part # from this vendor and they sell it only by 1000' and everyone needs 100. They may pull of a shorter piece but I need to cross the part w a vernier. I bet others could use inserts too..
